Dark Was the Night Trailers

An evil is unleashed in a small town when a logging company sets up shop in the neighboring woods. Isolated and threatened, a mysterious force hidden within the trees outside the small town of Maiden Woods, strikes fear in the townspeople as Sheriff Paul Shields attempts to overcome the demons of his past while protecting those that he loves.

Reviews
SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
Seraherrera The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
suite92 The Three Acts:The initial tableaux: The very beginning of the film is consists of archival footage of logging backed up with atonal, jump-out-of-your-skin music. Trees are ripped apart, with chunks of them turned to chips by automatic machinery. Tree trunks are dumped skinned (figuratively speaking) of their bark, separated from limbs and roots, on the ground for future pickup.Next we switch to a staged logging site with modern photography, no current tree destruction, and next to no sound. The site is closing down for the weekend; a winter storm is coming in. The foreman checks up on the last crew still on the (moderately) secure and closed site. This does not go well. The early splatter set my expectations going in the wrong direction for a moment. This is more of a suspenseful film.Delineation of conflicts: Near the town of Tanner, the logging company cuts down trees to produce lumber to sell. Creatures in that wooded area are forced to move to find a new habitat. In Maiden Woods, to the south of Tanner, the local animal owners would like their animals to be safe, while the new creatures in the woods are hungry. Hunters would like to shoot deer as usual, and wonder about the migration of animals. The local Sheriff, Paul Shields, his wife Susan, and their remaining son Adam are separated after the death of their other son, Tim. Everyone in town wants the sheriff to heal from this, but he is wallowing in it. Various religious themes are batted about with little consensus. Is the creature the devil, or some animal thought extinct? Does the Sheriff need to reconnect to the deity, or is he just lost in sorrow? Was the deputy from New York City 'meant' to have moved to the film's small town, or was this just a single workaholic man drifting through life? While dealing with his emotional issues, Paul has to help out the town, the horse owners, the hunters, and the Sheriff's department by figuring out what's going on.Resolution: The Sheriff, Deputy Saunders, the forest rangers, and local hunters get closer to understanding the threat to Maiden Woods. Is there a workable solution?
JackUK1973 When you watch a lot of low budget horror you automatically lower your expectations (watching 'panic button' while writing this, and that is truly dreadful!), however I found Dark is the Night to be one of the better films I've seen recently. There's nothing new in the concept; a remote American town, monster in the woods, people and animals disappearing - in some cases without trace. The suspense and characters build nicely through the film, with odd glimpses of the monster as we go. Kevin Durand was especially good, but all the actors did a great job.The film could be better again if two things could have been addressed; firstly it's ridiculous that the monster kills pretty much whatever is in it's sights however on the more than one occasion that it encounters the sheriff and/or his deputy it runs away - especially bizarre in the scene where the sheriff stops for the dead deer in the middle of the night when he could easily have been killed. And secondly, as others have mentioned, the ending where the creature is revealed which was so bad it almost reminded me of Ray Harryhausen style stop-motion effects. If you can get past those two things though, it's a good watch (unlike this awful Panic Button film)
ruma5 I watch a lot of monster, thriller, mystery, and sci-fi.. Dark was the night was really, really good. I screamed at times at my TV- Only movies that grab me can do that- There was a lot of suspense- I recognized the 2 lead actors - Lucas from "Witness" and Kevin from "Stargate Sg-1 - They were both fantastic!!! I really did not want the movie to end! I only have 1 complaint - the reason I gave it a 9 instead of 10--- DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THIS MOVIE!!!!!!! The ending! If they ended it after shooting the monster.. I would have loved it- We need a good monster movie with a HAPPY ENDING!!! But no- the director had to end it with many more monsters climbing on the church .. Why??? That's the only reason I gave it a 9 instead of 10- either way , it really is a great movie, a lot of fun!!
Oisin Fleming Damn I was loving this movie, the first 3/4 were brilliant, the scenes were dark, intense and surprisingly emotive. The acting was solid, the script was solid and the practical effects were solid. The tone and setting of the movie transported me right to scene, the creature build up was Jaws-esque. Then the final 1/4 happened, and it undone almost everything the first parts of the movie had done. It turned into a stupid 'SyFy' channel creature feature right before my bewildered eyes, I don't know why the director felt the need for such a ridiculous Cgi filled finish, because the Cgi was indeed awful, it's a classic example of every new director wanting to jump aboard the Cgi monster hype train which I truly wish came of its tracks a long time ago. I'd still recommend watching 'Dark was the Night' please ignore the ridiculous new title, because it was a great film, but please notice the word 'was' as the final 1/4 of this film is a bigger let down than the Fnatastic Four reboot.
