Sexylocher Masterful Movie
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Murphy Howard I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Irishchatter I have to say, this was a stupid funny film that ever was out in the 80s. John Cusacks character is like such an annoying brat that you definitely wouldn't want to be his classmate at all lol. Whereas Daphne Zuniga is like your typical girl who's fed up with life and of course, peed off with him but still cares about him. Yknow after watching the movie, I couldn't believe Cusack was 17 that time and Zuniga was the princess in Space Balls! That's mad like you wouldn't think these actors in this underrated film would turn out to be big than you actually think! It's a good movie, although I think the girls parents who kicked them both out of the car, shouldn't have been bothered being added onto this movie. It was too short of a role for Robbins and Persky's role as the parents as it seems they were rather neglectful here or was that the idea of the story? That's just the only complaint I have with this film!Anyways I'm glad Cusacks and Zunigas characters lived happily ever after! 8/10
g-bodyl The Sure Thing is an 80's classic teen film that holds up very well into present day as the relevant themes still hold true no matter the decade you're in. Led by an assured performance from John Cusack, this is a very sentimental film that is in the lines of what you would expect from John Hughes. It's a sweet, sentimental growing-of-age story and a better-than-average road trip film to boot. Rob Reiner's film is about a boy named Water Gibson who decides to go on a cross-country road trip to California in order to get with a girl his friend hooked up for him. However, another college student named Alison is also going on this trip to see her boyfriend, but of course they hate each other. However as the trip goes on, feelings begin to change. So what about "The Sure Thing"? John Cusack, despite his tender age, really handled himself quite maturely. He delivered a funny and sentimental performance as a college boy just trying to do what many college boys want to do. I also liked the performance of Daphne Zuniga as Alison. She is quite abrasive and a loud-mouth at times, but she reminds me of some people of days past. Overall, The Sure Thing is a sweet movie that introduced Cusack to stardom, as he would go to have a rather solid career. There may be nothing entirely new about the film, but then again it's the how, not the what. The movie ages well, especially for one that is thirty years old. A very touching, sentimental film. My Grade: A
SnoopyStyle Walter Gibson (John Cusack) and best friend Lance (Anthony Edwards) are graduating high school. He wonders if his best days are over. Gib is floundering in a northeastern college. Alison Bradbury (Daphne Zuniga) in his English class is told by the professor to loosen up. Gib lures her to tutor him but she is completely annoyed by him. Lance is in college in California and he sends him a picture of the Sure Thing (Nicollette Sheridan). Gib gets a ride share with Gary Cooper (Tim Robbins) and Mary Ann Webster (Lisa Jane Persky) but Alison is also in the car on her way to see her boyfriend. Gib and Alison keep fighting and Gary abandons them on the side of the road. This is a traditional rom-com. It's a bit slow at times but in general, the movie works because John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga have good chemistry together. It's not very original. Zuniga is uptight and Cusack is the wild one. They are fire and ice. Of course, they are going to end up together. Rob Reiner shows some skills but also some deficiencies. The movie needs to be quicker and snappier.
harfordamanda it's not one of John Cusak's best films but it is worth watching. The only thing that disappointed me was that there wasn't a strong chemistry between his character Gib and Daphne Zuniga's character, you really can't feel the spark until the very end when the teacher is reading his paper about "The Sure Thing." I think the best parts of the film are his dream sequences and when he's showing her how to drink beer properly. If anything, the film really shows the birth of John Cusak's characters and how he plays them; the quirky over educated love enthused guy who's waiting for "that dare to be great situation" (if i may quote "Say anything"). A well deserved must see.
