Naive Midwestern prep student Jonathan bonds with his more worldly roommate, Skip, who takes the small-town boy under his wing. At Skip's urging, the inexperienced Jonathan is emboldened to seek out older women in the cocktail lounges of nearby Chicago, where he meets and beds the alluring Ellen, who unfortunately turns out to be Skip's mother. The division between the friends is further deepened when a cheating scandal engulfs the school.

PlatinumRead Just so...so bad
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Skyler Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
SnoopyStyle Jonathan (Andrew McCarthy) comes from a working class family. He gets a scholarship to a prep school rooming with the rich Skip (Rob Lowe). Skip immediately plays a prank on Jonathan which he returns in spectacular fashion. They become fast friends. Coincentantal events would conspire for Jonathan to have an affair with Skip's mother Ellen (Jacqueline Bisset). They would realize their connection when Jonathan joins Skip back home for Christmas break. The movie starts off as a pretty funny sex romp with some memorable pranks. The meeting between Jonathan and Skip's mother is beyond low probability, but it's not a big deal. I think the problem is that Jacqueline Bisset never fully committed or the writing never allowed her to. She's a rich housewife who has an affair. She could have been funnier as a raunchy cougar. When the affair was found out, the drama gets drained out of the movie. It's as if the writers couldn't figure out how to ramp up the drama. It fizzled out rather than exploded.Watch out for John Cusack, and Alan Ruck as two of the school friends. Also Virginia Madsen appears in her first movie and promptly shows her boob. It was a bit of misdirection because this isn't really a sex romp as much as advertised.
wes-connors On his first day in a new school, gullible young Andrew McCarthy (as Jonathan) is talked into changing into a black bra and panties by preppy roommate Rob Lowe (as Skip), who disrobes to reveal a similar taste in underwear. It's a funny, wildly implausible scene that sets a tone not kept throughout the story. Things will get decidedly more serious. Shortly before the half-hour mark, we receive confirmation that these guys are supposed to be high school-aged prep students; in the opening, Mr. McCarthy appears to be an arriving college underclassman. Naturally, the teen "boys" are interested in pranks and sex...Sensing McCarthy is a virgin, Mr. Lowe urges him to go to town and find a sex partner (it's an all-boys school). McCarthy finds sexy older Jacqueline Bisset (as Ellen). Lucky guy, but there are complications. She's a trifle unstable, married to hard-nosed Cliff Robertson (as Mr. Burroughs), and has a secret that threatens the friendship between McCarthy and Lowe. They are really smart and want to go to Harvard, but another secret will unfold... In the lead role, film-debuting McCarthy manages to both connect with and keep from being upstaged by Lowe (who makes a classy Jesus). All handle the assignment well.****** Class (7/6/83) Lewis John Carlino ~ Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, Jacqueline Bisset, Cliff Robertson
sorabji I guess I first saw this on cable, complete with all the curse words. I last saw this on ABC Family, where Disney's ludicrous voice overlays censored out the dirty words. These overlays transformed this light drama into pure comedy. Watching the Disney's overdubbed version, I laughed loud at the dramatic moments. Seriously loud laughter where the original director intended something else. I was transported from the experience of watching the movie to the experience of producers and lawyers and sound/film editors arguing over how best to convert a four letter word into something the Whole Family© will enjoy. That's not to say that the "dramatic moments" of this thing were anything but predictable. Class is little more than fluff, but it's fun and well acted. It's a good-when-you're-tanked story, with entertaining performances by then-young actors we now know for other things. This is a good teenage boy angst fantasy romp, and at best it ends with ... well, no spoilers, I guess. But that was a sudden ending, wasn't it.
cruppel The story was so slow and pointless I found myself hunting around the room for small spores that might possibly sprout and grow into mushrooms by the time each actor managed to solidify his thoughts long enough to mumble a poorly worded and retarded sentence. The story could have ended up with a point but it stopped dead in the middle of nothing. Do not watch this movie. I repeat: DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.
