Reviews
Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Asad Almond A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Beulah Bram A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
DCfan I saw this movie about two years ago and it wasn't that memorable, to be honest. But I do remember that mainly focused on Commissioner Gordon's life as a cop and his life struggles because of his wife having a baby, him having an affair with a colleague at work and to putting an end to the Batman. The movie kinda had bad animation and I find it weird that Selina Kyle bearly has hair, a daughter and if I remember correctly a husband or a an agent who she ends up killing. I must admit though in a scene where a swarm of Bats come in that reminded me of Batman Begins (See my review) when he is getting away with the cops.I also think that Bryan Crayson, sorry if I missed spelt his name wrong, was a good voice for Jim Gordon.
guisreis The film has an interesting story as, like the TV series "Gotham", it tells about the beginning of Gordon's carrier in Gotham police department, and also about the beginning of the dark knight. It also shows many important characters, such as detective Flass, detective Essen, commissioner Loeb, Barbara Gordon (the wife, not the niece), Harvey Dent, Selina Kyle, Carmine Falcone, Vicki Vale. Though, animation is not very nice all the time: it has its great moments in pretty nice frames (such as the brilliant one showing the diner Hopper's), but many times it reminds computer-made animation from the 90's in its too geographical figures. The pace has worsened along the film, becoming faster and not developing situations as it did in the beginning. The implausibility of some situations also bores (fighting carrying a baby without killing him due to the sharp moves, or destroying a pole which resisted gunfire by simply kicking it, for example). I have not read the comic that they have adapted to make this film, and I think it has some problems, but I think it worth seeing.
Neil Welch Upright cop James Gordon is transferred to the corrupt Gotham City Police Department at the same time as Bruce Wayne is taking the first steps towards becoming masked crimefighter Batman. This animated feature adapts the story written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzuccelli: it doesn't follow the artist's style that closely (although there are some images lifted directly from the page), but the story is well adapted. This is perhaps Gordon's story more than Batman's, well told, but not for kids: not because of violence or bad language, but because much of the story material is simply adult. This is one of the better DC animated films.
tr91 'Batman: Year one' was an enjoyable Batman animation. It wasn't my favourite one I have seen but it was still good in its own way.For me, this one seemed more about Gordon rather than Batman (I probably should have read the description before watching it and I would have realised). The animation looked great, one of the better animations I have seen in that sense. There was only a few fight scenes (which were good) but I just wanted more. I wanted to see the Batmobile and stuff like that. Also Catwoman was kinda just there, what was she doing? I'll admit I haven't read any Batman comics for years and have only just started watching a few of the animated films, maybe that's why I didn't like this one so much. Overall it was still good but just not as good as other ones I have seen.6/10
