Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Delight Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
Theo Robertson A teenage boy commits suicide after being the victim of cruel bullies . A few days later after his funeral mishaps start striking his schoolmates . Are these in retaliation for the boys suicide ? After all the dead stay dead or do they ?After reading the premise I thought this film was going to be THEATRE OF BLOOD the 1973 black comedy starring Vincent Price crossed with the 2003 Gus Van Sant drama ELEPHANT . Instinctively you feel this is how the film should have been developed . It deals with the themes of bullying and revenge subjects that should be treated with total respect . Instead we get a film that doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind what it's trying to do as in often the case in British cinema This extends to the whole tone of the film . It could certainly be described as Anti-ELEPHANT but that's because director Jon Wright goes out of his way to show the audience that he's been to film school and knows all about rapid cross cutting edits and ramping . If the audience are in danger of getting bored then he inserts what is effectively a pop video montage . To be blunt less would have been much more and he could have developed the story much better by being less frenetic with the editing and camera work . I take it the intended market for TORMENTED was angst ridden teenagers but I like to credit the youth of today , yesterday and tomorrow with more intelligence . If they want a pop video there's MTV and I'm speculating if they visit the cinema they want to see a story told in the language of cinema same as everyone else does On the subject of youth the cast are ... well how can I put it . You know when you watch a Tom Cruise movie and he's playing a shallow self centered character and he doesn't pull it off because he's perhaps much to nice to manage ? That's the exact same impression I got with the cast here . No doubt they were fantastic company and a pleasure to work with and exemplary role models for teenagers everywhere but at portraying cruel , sadistic foul mouthed bullies intent on making their peers life hell they never convince for a moment . Compare them to the cast of say SCUM and you'll notice a big difference TORMENTED is a rather mediocre film . One should always applaud a film from Britain that isn't ashamed to be a commercial hit and a film trying to mix horror with humour and important topics can only be congratulated but TORMENTED doesn't really manage to do anything very well . I wanted to like it but didn't much
harvey-palak I have just watched the horror, Tormented and found it a very poor and rubbish film. It is briefly based on a bullied teenager comes back from the dead to take revenge on his classmates. The horror-comedy failed miserably. I found it stupid how the killers' power and murders was relied on his inhaler. Although, it had an unexpected twist at the end of the film, when the police and other students think that Justine (Tuppence Middleton) had killed the other students, it still didn't improve the film at all. There are some decent moments of horror as the killer's methods of killing such as tiring the girl up to the guillotine so that she cannot escape while chopping her hands off. Moreover, the killing of Tasha (April Pearson) was also enjoyable as it was unique and didn't how Darren Mullet was going to kill her. Overall, I found it boring, uninspiring and predictable. The film was really cheesy throughout and the humour was just embarrassing. The makeup on the killer was horrific, didn't look scary at all. Although the plot seemed a good one but when the actors, script & budget came together it was terrible. I feel that you can just add this to the list of other failed horror-slasher-comedy British films.
Disgruntled Cow I was thoroughly disappointed with this film. I did not set any high- expectations for this film as I knew it was a low-budget, clichéd "Slasher" film. However, I did expect more substance than what this film had.The film is about a young boy named "Darren Mullet" who commits suicide due to being bullied by his peers. This film is obviously influenced by "Friday the 13th" because Darren Mullet comes back from the dead to get his revenge on the students who "Tormented" him. There is a sub-plot surrounding the love life of two main characters named Alexis and Justine however the connection between them and Darren Mullet is that Alexis bullied him with his other friends and Justine rejected Darren without even acknowledging his existence. Therefore, the one person from the "Popular Crowd" that Darren felt was a good person told him outright that he was a "Freak" and this gave Darren no reason whatsoever to live. The film becomes even more generic by it's typical twist of an ending which is most certainly not worth the time spent watching the filmThe film accomplishes what it sets out to do which is to raise awareness for bullying through the horror and comedy elements of the film. However, it never seems to quite capture the audience and keep them engaged in the storyline, probably because it is the typical, generic horror film we have seen a thousand times before. If you are sat at home with nothing to do then it may be worth a watch to pass the time but do not consider watching this with the aim of getting your value for money.Disgruntled Cow, Moo-Moo!
Harry Bibby I am currently watching Tormented as part of my AS Media Studies work, and I have to say I was looking forward to watching this Original British Horror Movie, based around a school kid called Darren Mullet, who commits suicide as he was so badly 'Tormented' by your typical school bully and his gang. The film has many good aspects about it, the non-linear structure of Justine being escorted out of school at the start of the film corresponds to the structure of the film, which happens at the end when she is framed for murders. The tension which builds up towards murders of the cast is impressive which then ends in bloody scenes which are classical. However, some of the bad points of the film are that, well it is very stereotypical? A school kid was bullied, and commits suicide, then comes back to haunt and kill the pupils is very basic; a more advanced storyline could have been used to make the film interesting and a "must watch." Overall, for a low budget horror attempt, it is very good, the way that young people are included in such classic attempts at a horror sequence are amazing. The film is funny with sarcastic lines from many characters, and not to forget the horror and guts, I give this film an 9 out of 10.
