Reviews
Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
phanthinga Back in the early 60s and 70s there some Lovecraft adaptation movies here and there but non of them get quite the recognition like Re-Animator in 1985 when it not only put Stuart Gordon and actor Jeffrey Combs into the cult status of horror movie history but also kick start the Lovecraft adaptation and Lovecraftian movies to this day with the latest contributation The Void in 2016.In Re-Animator despite being written by the author himself H.P Lovecraft and there's no doubt about the fun and gory natural of the movie it still contain nothing like the latter on adaptation movies when it not about the other dimension or crazy tentacle monster but a straigh up zombie movie. It's kind of bugging me out when i saw it for the first time but now after revisited Re-Animator the second time I finally known the true purpose of this movie is to introduce Lovecraft works to a new generation that grew up with modern monster like:Vampire, giant monster, werewolf and zombie before the good stuff that is fear of the unknown
Fella_shibby Saw this in the early 90s on a VHS. Revisited it recently on a DVD. To b honest, i didn't njoy this then n found it to b boring n comedic now. It was a low-budget film n definitely a different flavor of zombie film. The plot- Combs is a medical student obsessed with body reanimation. He teams up with another student, so the two of them can continue their experiments. Director Stuart Gordon managed to show good decapitations, reanimated cats, fingers bitten off, drills bored through the chests of corpses and attacks by zombie but all in a very comedic tone. He was not able to create any tension or suspense. Barbara Crampton's topless scene was a small treat in this otherwise non horror black comedy.
NDbportmanfan I really enjoy horror movies that do not try and take themselves too seriously and have no problem adding funny moments. This is one of those movies that perfectly blends the horror and comedy elements well. The story centers around two protagonists Cain and West who try and reanimate dead tissue cells in order to bring back the dead.Re-animator is one of those movies where in your mind you are saying "it can't get any weirder", but in fact it can AND WILL. I found this film to be very enjoyable just because how unique it is. I believe if you want to see a funny horror movie that this should be at the top of your list, if not right at #1.
azerman18 Re-animator can be considered to be a part of many genres. It does meet the definition of a cult film, a horror film, a sci-fi film and even a comedy film. The movie has a somewhat similar plot to that of Frankenstein. But instead of creating a monster from virtual scratch, a young medical student named Jeffrey Combs is motivated to bring dead corpses back to life. He quickly becomes friends with another medical student, whose girlfriend's father just happens to be a doctor. The re- animations do not go well at first, the revived corpses are not able to think clearly and they try to kill him. This movie is has a solid R- rating and it is one of the most graphic and gory movies I have ever seen. This movie takes on gore like the movie The Evil Dead with the main goal of making it so gory that it is humorous. Jeffrey quickly moves from re-animating animals to re-animating people, even though they are not quite the same re-animated as they were when they were alive. The corpses are re-animated by injecting a needle with green serum into the back of the head, sometimes with highly violent results. Then the movie gets odd and humorous giving i it's cult and comedy rating. A re- animated corpse tries to rape a girl but his severed head cannot do it. The same corpse with the severed head tries to control it's body and it crashes into things. I did enjoy this movie, it was a very unique movie and it was very fun to watch. But however, I would not recommend this film to those who do not like graphic movies. The movie was a very pleasant surprise and it is very funny.
