mcdp I've watched this film more than 10 times and will watch it over and over again because every time I do, it never ceases to mesmerize me. The script was well-written, the actors were really great (especially Anthony Hopkins), the setting was just right, the music was excellent, the special effects were magnificent, the costumes were fabulous, the entire film was well-directed. This, for me, is the best werewolf movie ever, a masterpiece. I can't wait for another one to top this.

Radu B. I'll start by saying that my job is not reviewing films for a living like those who posted some of the most idiotic reviews on this movie. In 10 years this is probably my 3d or 4th review on IMDb. But damn it... when I read the stuff critics write about this movie I can't do anything other than to express my astonishment and disgust, because it's an example of how a great movie can be destroyed by critics for no reason.I don't watch horror movies for breakfast, despite it being my favourite genre. In fact I'll go as far as saying there are no great horror movies in recent years. Most nowadays horror movies are cheap, stupid zombie flicks for the mediocre, series, invented out of nothing, where the monster is either a clown, a spoiled kid, a ghost, or wears some mask because that's the thing today, with fake tension moments accompanied by string quartets for the background music whenever main characters open the fridge or pick their nose.The Wolfman is far above, it goes somewhere between Dracula (by Coppola), Omen, Sleepy Hallow, Alien, The Thing... that's where I'd put it. If you like these, then watch it, you won't regret it. It has a great story with sophisticated characters played by actors that give 100%.Hopkins is the best actor ever when it comes to representing a villain, his ambiguity and eyes of steel are unique to him. Benicio Del Toro was the perfect guy for the Wolfman role, his face anatomy, internal suffering and dark energy demanded it from the start. Emily Blunt was sweet in her role as the central representation of innocence, love and beauty. And I can't imagine anyone else playing the Scoland Yard inspector better than Hugo Weaving with his methodical attitude. The dialog is according to the era the movie takes place in with dialog about historical events, life, philosophy, upperclass and lowerclass, full of curtesy and patience in details.Did I say yet that this movie is dark? has some of the most amazing horror type of scenery, the light work is phenomenal, reminds of Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola which is one of my favourites as well. The music does great at emphasizing the contrast between darkness and light, between the horror and peacefulness.The action sciences could've been better, I'd give it that, maybe because of the few distant shots which made things a bit less mysterious. But The Wolfman is not about sheer violence and gore, not there isn't any, oh there's enough gore and guts in it to turn your stomach inside out. This movie is about the horrors of being a monster, about love that can conquer the heart of a beast.The way the movie is and the rating it has, just don't match, it's like a bad conspiracy and this is why I felt compelled to share my opinion.I also think IMDb should implement a smart rating system, using Q & A by which the true rating of a movie is identified, not the John Doe 1 star rating because he's a paid "movie expert" with access to internet.

Peter Miller (pitabox987) This movie looks good on the outside, dark and suspenseful and full of mystery.Unfortunately the 'dark' aspect covers the fact that the first third of the film practically has nothing interesting in it, the suspense is minimal, and the mystery is non-existent as any smart person can pick straight away who the 'wolfman' is.Some of the scenes are so clichéd that it makes the film boring to watch, It's difficult for me to watch half of the film in one sitting, it's that boring. - Whenever something interesting does happen you'll find yourself cheering for the werewolf because those trying to disprove or stop him have acted like such complete idiots that they deserve the fates they bring upon themselves.As a fan of Anthony Hopkins I was greatly disappointed by his sluggish performance, it's absolutely mind numbing.Do yourself a favor, don't bother with this film, unless you enjoy torturing yourself.I'll give it one star for having Anthony Hopkins in it, the other two are for the film and it's overall quality...

Davis P This 2010 remake of the 1941 classic film is pretty weak overall. This version stars Anthony Hopkins, Emily blunt, and Benicio del Toro. The acting truthfully is just mediocre, I've definitely seen worse, but it doesn't change that multiple scenes where the acting just didn't measure up and it made it very difficult to get invested in the film. I usually like Emily blunt and Anthony Hopkins and they really are good actors and there other films prove that but I just don't think their performances here were nearly as skilled as their other roles. The plot is pretty simple, nothing too complex here, and personally it wasn't difficult at all to figure out who was the wolf man responsible for the murders at the beginning. The visuals are pretty good, that's actually the only thing that's good about the movie. It did deserve that Oscar win for makeup, it does feature top notch makeup and visuals, but everything else about is lackluster and uninteresting. The Wolfman could've been an interesting and I feel like there was a pretty good amount of potential that the filmmakers had to deal with, but all that potential was unfortunately wasted. 3/10 overall for The Wolfman.
