Tom and Hannah have been platonic friends for 10 years. He's a serial dater, while she wants marriage but hasn't found Mr. Right. Just as Tom is starting to think that he is relationship material after all, Hannah gets engaged. When she asks Tom to be her 'maid' of honor, he reluctantly agrees just so he can attempt to stop the wedding and woo her.

WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Benjamin James I have not watched many romantic comedies and am not a huge fan of them, however I quite enjoyed the film and have given it an 8 out of 10.The plot line is quite enjoyable especially in line with the characters portrayed. The chemistry between the two lead parts (Tom - Patrick Dempsey and Hannah - Michelle Monaghan) is near perfect in the film giving an enticing feel to the story. Even if you are not a fan of this genre as am I, I would still recommend this film due to many funny scenes and moments, lots of enjoyable and funny dialogue between Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan, plus the Character Tom is a confident, enthused womaniser who is always quick witted and seems to be living the lads dream which is always enjoyable to see. Also Tom's father Thomas Sr played by Sydney Pollack is a hilarious addition to the film being an old rich man who has 5 divorces under his belt. The romance in the film is not overpowering but still suitable for the types who seek that in a movie. As the film was set in a united states city and in the Scottish highlands you get quite a contrast of scenery and people which adds an otherwise unattainable aspect to the film of enjoyability. Overall the film was definitely worth a watch and suitable for non romantic comedy lovers - it's a nice chill out film. Oh and I forget to mention that Michelle Monaghan is pretty damn hot!!!
KineticSeoul This is a very safe movie that has nothing challenging about it. Now for a romantic comedy it's sort of passable, but this movie just plain sucked. It's a romantic comedy without any comedy. If you thought the trailer to this was bad, the movie is way worse. Just about everything about it is way too predictable and will go exactly the way you think it will go, at least for those that seen some romantic comedies. Everything about this movie is so very generic, the only positive thing I can say about this movie is that it's bearable but that is about it. Almost nothing in this was even slightly original. None of the jokes were even remotely funny or enjoyable, and almost every aspect of this movie was just lame and ridiculous. This is a pretty crappy chick flick, not that I particularly like chick flicks but there are way better ones out there.3.5/10
lisafordeay OK I got this movie all because I have a thing for Patrick Dempsey. Yes his got charisma, charms, drop dead gorgeous his got the whole package and of course it was on sale in some DVD store so I said to hell with it I'm buying it but in this film he was a total bastard. Im sorry for the swearing but he was. He plays Tom Bailey Jr a serial womanizer who is in love with his best friend of 10 years Hannah(Michelle Monaghen)who goes to Scotland and falls for a Scotsman named Colin(another Grey's Anatomy star Kevin Mckidd) and she is engaged to him. Tom is horrified to discover this and what happens well he decides to be the Maid of honor(yeah a woman's job) all because he wants to win her heart. Some scenes were hilarious like the part where he rides that horse and falls into the church and Colin punched him in the face and the part where he gets spray on his eyes. I actually liked the chemistry between Dempsey and Monaghen although I rathered his chemistry with Amy Adams in Enchanted as it was more special and more passionate. Anyway if you wanna watch a pure rip off of My Best friends wedding only in male form then be my guest but if you are only watching because of Patrick Dempsey then check it out. Not his best film (poor him he should star in more musicals if you saw Enchanted then you will understand why or more family movies as he is a dad in real life and he is more suitable in them kind of films as well as Rom Com's as I like to call him the king of romance. Its an OK movie but wouldn't be the best I have seen. My advice watch Enchanted instead his more better in that film.5/10
Roland E. Zwick Tom (Patrick Dempsey) is a commitment-phobic, marriage-avoiding playboy who spends most of his waking hours tomcatting around Manhattan (what a novel concept for a romantic comedy). Only Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), his "best friend" of ten years, has the strength of character to call him on his shallowness - even though anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of romantic comedy knows full well that the two of them are just made for each other (apparently, the only people in these situations stupid enough not to realize this universal truth are the couples themselves). But just as Tom decides he's in love with Hannah and is willing to make a lifelong commitment to her, the latter turns up engaged to a kilt-wearing dreamboat ("Rome"'s Kevin McKidd) she met in Scotland. Unaware of how Tom feels about her, Hannah asks him to be her "maid of honor" at the wedding, a role he reluctantly accepts, believing that this will place him in the perfect strategic position to sabotage the nuptials. As with virtually all romantic comedies these days, "Made of Honor" takes place in a squeaky-clean, never-never land version of New York City, where everyone attends swanky functions, dines at five-star restaurants, and drinks café mocha lattes, with nary a hint as to what any of these fantastically well-off characters do to earn all their money. And, of course, almost everyone we meet is white (with a token African-American or two, as always, thrown in for good measure). The late Sydney Pollack plays Tom's oft-married father, whose penchant for running through women at an alarming rate shows that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in that family. And, of course, Tom is surrounded by the obligatory coterie of jock friends who discuss women, commitment and sex with all the depth and maturity of a bunch of junior-high school students feeling their first stirrings of puberty. Yet, isn't it funny watching all these macho guys fixing gift baskets and discussing wedding plans? No, not really. It's safe to say that there's not a single moment in "Made of Honor" that doesn't feel utterly manufactured and desperately contrived. Add to that an annoyingly cutesy musical score, embarrassment-evoking slapstick routines - including the desperate Tom arriving late to the wedding astride a borrowed horse, no less! - gag-inducing sentimentality, and the kind of ending we thought "The Graduate" had so brilliantly put an end to forty-some-odd years ago. Thus, despite the story's being told from a man's viewpoint for a change, at the end of the day, it's still the same old romantic comedy hooey we've been subjected to from time immemorial.
