Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
ksmail-1 I'm really surprised by the high rating. I did not enjoy this movie at all.The scenes involving the main character and two other girls were painstakingly bad and unrealistic. I'm incredibly tired of Hollywood misrepresenting what the human courting process really looks like, and this movie gives a very clear example of what it does not look like. Like come on, the guy acts like the most shy and uncertain kid in the world and somehow the girls make all of the advances? Wake up.. who the hell let this stuff slide? It didn't really seem like a comedy. I honestly can't recall laughing, although I do admit it was slightly entertaining at times. It really felt like this movie was made for teenagers (like most movies these days.. unfortunately). If you're outside of this demographic you probably will not enjoy it that much.I didn't enjoy the "joke" of a white character bringing up the issue of the N word and how he uses it in a well intentioned manner just like the other characters, but despite it he is slapped for a second time when saying it, resulting in the hysterical laughing of the other characters. Was this honestly supposed to be funny? The white character actually had a good point. Either way it seemed incredibly racist. The one thing I liked about this movie was the music. That was like the one silver lining. I do not recommend this movie.
jacksonalvey Overall, it was an entertaining movie. Good acting by everyone, but for me, the story left a little to be desired. The beginning is great. It grabs your attention, really paints an interesting picture of what life is like for these kids, and helps you sympathize with them in their plight of being "losers". The dialog is excellent, and the story is fun and entertaining. However, the second half moves far too quickly, and it feels much less thought-out than the first half. The resolution of the problem just comes out of nowhere, goes seamlessly, and then the credits are rolling. I would have liked to see the film take a similar tack to how it began. It just feels like it's on fast-forward to get to a quick ending. In spite of that, it's hard not to enjoy this film, especially if you're into old school hip hop like me.
Fallen Eye A fresh film, with an inexplicably charming cast.Something about this movie is inspiring, and feels more real than just what's behind the camera. The score ranges from reminiscent to straight up, dope. The story, is a young man lost between the cracks, and finds a way to rise above, and write his name of that very wall. A young man who lost his place in the queue, but finally stood up, before it was too late, to fight for his turn.Malcolm was just a block of wood, and was forced into a situation where he'd have to carve himself into something that will define him forever... And from that 1 block, spawned more than just one design.Again, something about this movie hits hard. Is it the; "From the bottoms of bottoms, to the top of the top" or is it his journey and subsequent carpentry... I don't know... All I know is, the feeling this movie evokes, is Dope.A, 7.8/10.
Objectivity I had never heard of this film yet it was 7.3 on IMDb with over 50000+ voters. Then I saw that Pharrell Williams was an executive producer on the film, so I was "Happy" to try it - :-).What a different, enjoyable, and eventually rewarding film. The film is about someone who is not just different from the standard stereotypes, but also ..... DIFFERENT ! And that tells you all you need to know before you watch it !Watch it till the end - this film gets better and better throughout the entire film, culminating with a really rewarding end.I loved it.
