Pumpkin_Man It's been awhile since I've watched this prequel to the 2003 remake, and it's much better than I remembered. It is incredibly gory and more 'over the top' than the original. I love ridiculous amounts of gore. Since this was a prequel, they should have explored Leatherface's childhood more, but they glance over it slightly during the credits. Hopefully the next prequel will show some. (They are making a prequel to the 1974 classic) This film takes place in 1969, set four years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Two brothers named Dean and Eric are on there way to enlist in the Vietnam War. Eric wants to stay with his girlfriend, Bailey. Dean is engaged to Chrissie. On their way, they are attacked by bikers and soon run into Sheriff Hoyt, played again by the vicious R. Lee Ermey. We see how Thomas Hewitt becomes the infamous 'Leatherface' and his first time torturing his victims with a chainsaw. If you love violence, extreme gore, and prequels, you'll love THE Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING!!!
Michael Loughrie This movie was, kind of okay. First of all, it was a little scary, that's why I give it 6/10. The rest was crap. First of all, it had some good cool things, kind of cool seeing the beginning. I thought the rest was a, just a scare fest. Nothing interesting, it's just gory and makes it hard for you to sleep. It was NOT as good as the other movies. The original is WAY better than this. It has no moments in the movie that make you say, "Wow! That was well done!" It is just not as creative as the other movies. I don't recommend it. If you love The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you might like it. I love The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It is not as good though. It is a poorly thought film. I want everyone here who haven't seen the original, watch the original. You'll love it, but never see this movie first. Thank you.
Davis P This movie offended me in sooo many ways!! This movie is sooo unnecessarily gory, unbelievably disturbing (even compared to the others). The movie was soo pointless and should never have been made! Texas chainsaw massacre (2003) was light years better than this embarrassment. I felt so depressed after this movie. This movie is offensively gory and wayyy too violent. Leatherface saws off the main characters face!!! There is noting left to the imagination here! The acting is very mediocre. The storyline is a complete mess! This movie has absolutely no purpose in this world! And everyone is killed!! I hate it when there isn't that 1 girl left alive to escape in a horror flick! To me someone should ALWAYS survive! But no, not in this crap!
callanvass Brothers, Dean & Eric decide to take their friends on a road trip before heading to Vietnam. Dean doesn't wanna serve in Vietnam, but he becomes worried about upsetting his brother. The trip goes awry when the gang gets involved in an accident and a crazy sheriff puts them through extreme turmoil. To make matters worse, a brooding killer with a chainsaw is looking to hack up them and their friends. I was gonna explain the part about Leatherface's upbringing (Thomas) , but I figured what I typed out would be enough. After a surprisingly entertaining remake, I was shocked to find out they were going the prequel route. Don't get me wrong, I was interested to learn about the background of Leatherface, but I didn't think it was completely necessary. I didn't think they delved deep enough into Leatherface's childhood. More depth would have been nice. To be honest this movie has a lot in common with the 2003 redo. It's breezy and fun with a lot of explicit violence. Take away the prequel and the brothers storyline and you have a lot of the same elements from the first movie. You can put the prequel label on it all you want, but it felt like deja vu. Gore lovers will find a lot to love about this movie. I'm not gonna spoil the goodies because they are the best part of the movie. Let's just say it gets really messy. The acting is quite competent. I did like how they tried to give some semblance of character development to a couple of the characters. Jordana Brewster's part is eerily similar to Jessica Biel's. To her credit she doesn't play a total damsel in distress. She was a decent scream queen, nothing outstanding. Lee Emery is fantastic as the kooky Sheriff. He did his thing from the remake and I loved every minute of it! Taylor Handley and Matt Bomer are good as the brothers. I like how they had a bit of a story so we had a bit of an emotional attachment to them. Handley was more of a sympathetic character. Despite how much I liked Matt Boomer, I empathized with Handley a bit more. Andrew Brynarski is an imposing Leatherface. He was excellent in the remake and just as good in this one! The ending was certainly surprising! I wouldn't say I fully agreed with it, but I appreciated the risk in doing something different. If you accept the fact that this prequel is basically deja vu you'll more than likely enjoy yourself to some degree. More could have been done with it, but I was fairly entertained. 6.4/10
