charleswott-40657 To me, this movie proves that in a romantic comedy, chemistry is the ONLY thing that really matters. I love this movie and have watched it over and over, but that doesn't mean I don't notice the obvious flaws: the set-up is not really believable, there are a lot of cheesy jokes about Priya's Indian family that they should have avoided, the acting is okay but not perfect. But Shriya Saran is beautiful and lovable as the girl-next-door who happens to be from Mumbai and Jesse Metcalfe, despite being impossibly movie-star handsome, is really very endearing as a vulnerable, romantic guy trapped in a shallow environment. The characters make this movie work, and I can recommend it to anybody.
JamieWJackson I liked this movie more than most others did. Yeah, there are some rather obvious plot holes, but I forgave them in the interest of seeing the characters do their rom-com dance. They danced pretty well. Also, the family gave us some funny moments as well as an occasional touching one. Bits of this movie veered into slapstick territory, but never too far to return. It doesn't break any new ground, but what it does, it does well enough to be enjoyable. One thing which surprises me is that I'm the first reviewer here to mention the movie "Outsourced", which has a very similar plot (I liked that one too). This movie isn't going to win awards, but it was never aiming to; just relax and let it take you on a fun spin.
exzur12 I find "The Other End of the Line" loaded with too much cliché add to that the suggestive background music/songs (like, Pretty Woman?..please). Domineering parents, narcissistic hot blond, nerdy friend, not so funny boss, I am beginning to wonder where is the requisite dog? The segments where Granger took Priya for a tour of San Francisco is very staged and has unconvincing actions. And the ending, jeez, right out of An Officer and a Gentleman. If you enjoy sappy comedic love story, this one is for you. Jesse Metcalfe's acting is good considering he is mostly known for his role as a hot stud in Desperate Housewife's. More acting lessons for him might land him a better scripted movie. The girl the played the role of Priya sometimes displays inconsistent emotions. I suppose she is trying to pattern her actions with that of Julia Robert.
mcmugged This is an old formula for a romantic comedy, but if it is done well, it is still enjoyable to watch. It is nice to have something to watch which is relaxing after seeing some of the tense thrillers I also like to watch. The one thing that bugged me about this movie is the girl works as a tech support phone operator in India for an American company. Her big advantage is that she can sound "American" and people don't know she is in India. Why does that bug me? Because it reminds me of the thousands of jobs that have been outsourced to other countries for cheap labor at a time when our country is in the biggest recession since the 30s. It was hard for me to be sympathetic to the characters when in the back of my mind, I kept thinking of the "outsourcing" problem.I did like the actors.
