Reviews
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
mraculeated The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Walter Sloane Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
wisconsinator "Something came through here last night and killed my two prize shoats." I remember going home after seeing the movie in 1972, to look up what was a shoat. It is a young weaned pig. Yes, the music is hokey, or corny, but it sets a logical tone for this film. The man who is near rating it, should be near rating for a living, because he has such a perfect voice for it. The sound of "the creature" vocalizing reminds me of a bear. Here's a song sung about the creature:The Legend of Boggy Creek" Lyrics and Music: Earl E. Smith Sung by: Chuck BryantThis is where the story plays, A world on which we seldom gaze, A page from the book of yesterdays, Birds and beast and wind and water. Here beneath the bright blue sky, No man smoke blinds the eagle's eye. And things that crawl or swim or fly, Feed and breed and live and die. Here the sulfur river flow, Rising when the storm cloud blows. And this is where the creature goes, Safe within a world he knows.Perhaps he dimly wonders why, There is no other such as I. To touch, to love, before I die, To listen to my lonely cry.
dixonc-62562 the film is a 1972 cult treasure! the film is one of the best Bigfoot films ever! the film a docudrama about a monster staling a swamp. but the real problem is finding a good DVD of the movie. the best not oop DVD is the cheesy flicks DVD. the second best but is oop is the hens tooth versian. the 3rd best and the one most fns will like is the retrosploition DVD. this DVD is sometimes regarded as the worst but is actually a very good versian if the think about it. it has 2 prints of the film trailers, a preview for " Legacy of Boggy Creek". but the movie is creepy and atmospheric. the monster has about 3 min of total screen time and it is mostley seen as a tall shadowy figure. the creatures face is glimsted upon at the end of the film. the movie is very kid friendly and most kids will enjoy it but the film is not for everyone. the film is not very hard to find but a good print is required for the full experience.
Realrockerhalloween The legend of boogie creek is a documentary reenactment of real life accounts that plagued a rural community in the 70s.The same producers who created the town that dreaded sundown use a lot of the same techniques like using outdoor scenes that linger, a menacing villain who haunts in the background and characters leaving an impression no matter how short a time they have on screen.Going for realism, it does drag in a few sequences, using the same locations or an oil painting for a stand in and characters who can't act themselves out of a paper bag.The narrator was a mixed bag sometimes going for the cheery Disney fairy tale approach before switching to Boris Karloff rendition of the horror befalling before your eyes leading to unintended humor. It felt like they couldn't come up with any lines so they improved using a narrator to explain detail what is happening during every scene. What was effective is the creative's appearance during key scenes, blending in the dark and let out shivering cries of pain. Following what I consider the best approach less is more until the ending when you can see its a suite. The camera tries not to linger for long, but the eyeholes are visible ridding the claustrophobic feel it once had. Plus I never laughed so hard to see a man so frightened he runs through a fake door, the slide ins left visible, leaving you rolling on the ground in delight.Check out the DVD finally released and knock a few back for an interesting look on this quote unquote true story.
utgard14 The Legend of Boggy Creek is one of my favorite films of all time. The first time I saw it was late at night on a local station. I grew up in a town very similar to the one in this film, so I felt a personal connection watching these (mostly) real people at real locations instead of the usual Hollywood sets or big city backdrops. Watching late at night by myself provided the perfect setting to experience this film for the first time. The sights and sounds of the swamp are so much creepier that way.The movie is a docudrama about the Fouke Monster. Fouke is in Arkansas and this film details the sightings of a Bigfoot-like creature in the area known as Boggy Creek. The creature is normally shy but, for some reason, it appears to be becoming more aggressive towards livestock and humans. This movie features mostly real people "acting" and as such will divide the audience. Using real people added an extra layer of authenticity to the story, in my opinion. How can anybody not like Travis Crabtree?!?Charles B. Pierce, who produced and directed this movie, has long been one of my favorite low-budget directors. He made several films that were actually good despite their limitations. And yes, he made some clunkers that were good for unintended laughs only. But all of the films of his that I have seen have been interesting at least. Boggy Creek is his first film and it epitomizes the talent Pierce had. He certainly had original ideas and a distinct style. It's difficult to deny when watching this film that Pierce creates an eerie, unsettling, atmosphere. He takes his time and paces the film well, soaking up the local color and scenery. Adding to the film's ambiance is a creepy score and some great folksy ballads. I know this is the type of film cynics and smug punks like to mock and feel superior to, all the while praising the merits of the latest overproduced blockbuster. I also realize my personal connection to the film influences my judgment of it. I would just implore anybody who is trying to decide whether to watch it to give it a shot with an open mind. Accept it for what it is, not what it isn't. This really is an excellent unique film. Beautiful in its way. The current score on IMDb is insulting. If even one person is turned off of trying this movie as a result of the misleading score, that's truly a shame. This is a one-of-a-kind film everyone should see.
