The Host Trailers

A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race's mission of taking over the Earth, "Wanda" (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.

Reviews
Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
Solidrariol Am I Missing Something?
Organnall Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,
Sammy-Jo Cervantes There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
sunchick116-872-583383 I'm 32 years old, so i'm not the target demographic for this film. i do however enjoy escapist films. i remember hearing about it when it first came out, but was never into 'twilight', so i ignored it. i wish i hadn't. it played on my movie channel so i watched it out of curiosity. i was really impressed. i love saoirse ronan, but she's never played a character i've liked ('lady bird' was an awful movie. fight me) i think this film is also understated because while we all know Ronan is talented, we're not giving enough props for playing two characters. it's also really easy to dismiss this film as a love story or love triangle, but it's more complicated than that. maybe i'm showing my intellectual capacity (i couldn't follow 'dunkirk' worth a damn) but i think it deserves more props. the inner battle the host fights with melanie throughout the film is nuanced and complex. if you pay close attention, Ronan took careful detail to make the two different. not an amazing movie, but surely not a forgettable one either.
douglascoleharrison First: I really enjoyed this movie. I love sci-fy and when it gets to be combined with a story of fully dynamic characters that show the heart of being what we would call human is deeper than being a homo sapien. An engaging plot riddled with surprising moments that showed me where I have room to grow in expanding my own understanding of how our differences are much less important that our similarities.Second: This is one of those movies that can best be appreciated by someone who enjoys the trailer. The movie is as advertised and from the heart. If you want to hold it to the public lens of what most people think is good then continue to read reviews written by people paid to write them for that general public. If you are less interested in an Oscar nomination and more interested in a store that speaks in your heart, then you probably shouldn't care about the TomatoMeter so much. Enjoy it if you thought you would before you looked up it's rating, you still will.
cinemajesty Movie Review: "The Host" (2013)After his lasting takes on sophisticated motion picture entertainment with "Gattaca" (1997) and "Lord of War" (2005), author director Andrew Niccol continues to share intriguing approaches of engaging another accomplished science-fiction thriller, yet missing the target to come full circle with his recent projects in the decade of 2010s with "In Time" (2011) being as unfulfilled as "The Host" (2013) due to misgiven young male character casting decision with actors Jake Abel and Max Irons hardly prevailing in tension-building chemistries with actress Saorise Ronan, who performs picture-carrying and scenes-owning in a split-characters' role of Melanie and Wanda; a character invaded by alienated body-snatchers-reminding metaphysic spirits, which inhabit human bodies as peace-, balance- and stability-loving entities, which leads to a science-fiction drama, accompanied by single undecisive, no connection-building action scenes, where Melanie's nemesis actress Diane Kruger performs as the alien character "The Seeker", when Director Andrew Niccol and initial writer Stephanie Meyer on her same-titled 2008-published novel completely fall-out to present one striking stake-raising scene in an too slow-received editorial by editor Thomas J. Nordberg of unless professionally captured footage by cinematographer Roberto Schaefer.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
nebula-70794 No spoilers!I really do not understand the hate that this movie has gotten. It seems to come from people who were either expecting an action packed, guns blazing, science fiction film or people that were expecting a carbon copy of the book.I had no idea what this movie was about when I sat down to watch it, besides that it was listed in the "post apocalyptic" genre, which is a favorite of mine. I also hadn't ever read or heard of the book, so I had no real expectations when I pressed play. I'm not particularly a fan of romance movies, but that's what this is at it's core. But it is accented by many things. There is the science fiction element, the struggle between right and wrong, good and evil, love and hate, compassion and envy. The ending was great - it could have ended at two different points before it actually does - the first of which you say to yourself "don't let it end like this," then you're amazed at what happens next, it's what you wanted to happen in your head, and the story continues on with the actual ending showing us that humans have a chance at survival.... and maybe even coexistence with their alien hosts.... It's really hard to put into words what this film did for me, it was like finding a diamond in a pile of rubble. Give it a watch, and I hope you end up enjoying the story as much as I did :)
