Reviews
SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
jessy zaki A Masterpiece, but not for everyone. You can watch it if you : 1) have patience. it's a calm and slow-paced movie, but never boring 2) appreciate artistic, lyrical and intelligent cinema 3) look for a different and an unusual topic with solid performances and direction 4) like dramas and thrillers 5) believe that the OSCARs are not the best of Hollywood 6) look for a clean movie without usual sexual content and nudity Have a nice journey within your dreams and facing your fears :)
merelyaninnuendo Take ShelterThe chemistry among the lead characters; especially the relationship between Michael Shannon and Tova Stewart who plays her daughter, communicates in all levels with the audience through its subtle tone that it stays true to, till the last frame. The writing is strong and powerful and is aware of its character's range and properties that it uses it wisely and projects the best possible outcome at its most intense dramatic scene that stays with the audience even after leaving the screen. It is short on technical aspects like sound department, although it is shot beautifully with amazing camera work and perfect editing. Jeff Nichols; the writer-director, surpasses its thought-provoking script through his brilliant execution skills which speaks volume in here. The performance objective is satisfied utterly by the brilliant cast like Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain and a delightful young talented actress named Tova Stewart. Despite of its grounded nature script, there are few fictionalized or fantasized sequences installed so perfectly that it leaves the audience in the awe of it. Take Shelter is overprotective and immensely secured of its character's perspective that helps fuel this character driven feature into reaching a far fetched idea.
oliviaharper Jeff Nichols is fast turning out to be quite the find and Take shelter is yet another notch up his credit. Great independent film featuring a great premise and fantastic acting.
Elektra Hyde Once again I have been misled by people's ratings and reviews here, and I do wonder if some people liked this film only due to the fact it had won the Grand Prix Nespresso at Cannes. The ending of the movie confirms with the audience that Curtis wasn't going crazy but in fact the apocalyptic storm was coming. The synopsis sort of tells you already that most likely he wasn't suffering from mental illness; therefore, the end was very predictable. I personally don't think I would have watched the film if I knew beforehand that the storyline was so downright simple and straightforward. It had been a slow-paced movie , and I did try to be very patient but still ended up feeling quite disappointed at the end.
