Sammy-Jo Cervantes There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Isbel A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
pahvou You've heard of the Star War fans who have seen the movie 100 times. Well, I'm a Snatch fan who has seen this movie, well not a hundred times, but close to it. To me, It is one of those rare films that you can watch over and over again. In fact, I'm probably going to watch it again tonight. If you got this far in the IMDb post you have seen the remarkable cast as well some of the characters they played. Bullet Tooth Tony, Boris the Blade, Turkish, Frankie Four Fingers and Brick Top. And then there is Mickie O'Neil to top it off. Without getting into any spoilers, just watch the movie.
seymourblack-1 After a Jewish gangster steals an 86-carat diamond from a jewellery exchange in Antwerp and returns to London, a whole variety of criminals suddenly decide that they want to get their hands on the precious stone and will stop at nothing to get what they want. This sets off the crazy chain of events that provides "Snatch" with its highly complicated plot that unfolds at high speed and delivers lots of laughs, snappy dialogue and copious amounts of violence. Its large cast of eccentric characters adds plenty of colour and profanity and the whole piece is so well-written and narrated that any conversational exposition is kept to an absolute minimum. When gambling addict Franky Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro), who'd carried out the heist in Antwerp returns to London and decides that he wants to buy a gun, one of his gang members, who happens to be related to an ex-KGB agent called Boris the Blade (Rade Sherbedgia), puts Franky in touch with his relative who's also a gun dealer. The diamond heist had been masterminded by a shady New York businessman known as Cousin Avi (Dennis Farina) and Franky had been instructed to deliver the diamond to Avi's London associate, Doug the Head (Mike Reid). Knowing this, Boris realizes that he must relieve Franky of the diamond before it can be passed to Doug.Unlicensed boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham) arranges for one of his fighters to take part in a match that he's set up with fellow promoter and notorious crime boss Brick Top (Alan Ford) but when his fighter can't compete after being injured in a confrontation with an Irish gypsy called Mickey O'Neil (Brad Pitt), Turkish needs a replacement and the gypsy is the obvious choice. After striking a deal with Mickey and receiving instructions from Brick Top for the gypsy to take a dive in the forth round, the fight goes ahead but doesn't end as planned.Boris the Blade acquires a gun for Franky and offers to waive any payment for it on condition that Franky places a bet for him on a boxing match. Franky agrees to do this at a bookie's that's owned by Brick Top and Boris hires a gang of grossly incompetent criminals to steal the diamond which Franky keeps in a briefcase that's handcuffed to his wrist. Brick Top is not amused by what transpires at his betting shop and in order to save their skins, the gang that Boris hired also go in search of the diamond so that they can steal it for Brick Top. On hearing that Franky had gone missing, Cousin Avi immediately comes to London and he and Doug recruit Bullet Tooth (Vinnie Jones) to use his persuasive powers to locate Franky.Brick Top is a particularly vicious piece of work who imposes his will on other people by the use of threats and extreme violence but when he makes an enemy of Mickey, he completely underestimates the reaction of his adversary and the gypsy community and in so doing, makes the biggest mistake of his life."Snatch" is a lot of fun and although the influence of Quentin Tarantino is never far away, it's most noticeable during the diamond heist when the thieves indulge in an extended discussion about the consequences of a mistake made by the Septuagint scholars who incorrectly translated the Hebrew word for "young woman" into the Greek word for "virgin". Other examples follow when Brick Top gives an extended explanation of the meaning of the word "nemesis" and a full description of how effectively pigs can be used to dispose of dead bodies. The whole production is highly stylized and this brilliantly facilitates all the wackiness that's perpetrated by its large-than-life characters who are brought to life in a whole series of crazy, over-the-top performances. Rade Sherbedgia's eccentric facial contortions are a marvellous manifestation of Boris' lunacy, Dennis Farina's constant state of panic highlights Cousin Avi's extreme level of anxiety and Brad Pitt, with a strange hybrid accent that no-one can understand, is absolutely hilarious as the fighter whose actions are so spontaneous that even he doesn't seem to know what he might do next. With its frenetic pace, fast editing and colourful characters, "Snatch" is exceptionally energetic, action-packed and so full of humour that watching it becomes a breathless but also tremendously entertaining experience.
EBJ 'SNATCH' was directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Jason Statham, Brad Pitt and Alan Ford. Illegal boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham) convinces gangster Brick Top (Alan Ford) to offer bets on bare- knuckle boxer Mickey (Brad Pitt) at his bookie business. When Mickey does not throw his first fight as agreed, an infuriated Brick Top demands another match. Meanwhile, gangster Frankie Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro) comes to place a bet for a friend with Brick Top's bookies, as multiple criminals converge on a stolen diamond that Frankie has come to London to sell. This is the most insane, weird, amazing movie I have ever seen in my entire existence. The story is insane, the characters are insane, the acting(I'm looking at you Pitt!) is insane - it is the actual definition of what in God's name is going on.... and I love it. The plot is delightfully insane. It really is. It is a slow buildup of several loosely related plots that combine into one mad, insane overarching story to create an equally insane outcome. Something I did not expect from this movie was non-linear storytelling. This is often a risk in film but I 100% think it worked here. There are a LOT of characters in this film and I can't even hope to mention them all. A good place to start, however, will be with our lead man. Jason Statham portrays Turkish, our lead man if you couldn't guess, and does a fantastic job at it. Turkish is a really good protagonist and his street nature gives him the fun edge over other characters.I could spend days picking apart Brad Pitt's fantastic portrayal of Mickey but I wont for the sake of time. In short, Pitt gives a truly memorable performance and brings a character, which really shouldn't work on paper, to life and makes him the funniest and most entertaining character in the movie.Alan Ford is great as Brick Top. Brick Top is a genuinely terrifying, yet also strangely humorous, villain that will gives you chills and laughs at the same time. A genuinely great performance.Rade Serbedzij was great as Boris the Blade, a very mysterious, intriguing character who was handled exceptionally well and was very entertaining. I will now say a sentence I NEVER expected to have to say: I liked Vinnie Jones in this movie. I really did. Bullet Tooth Tony was an intimidating muscle and served his role to the movie very well. Robbie Gee and Lennie James were both good as Vinny & Sol respectively. Dennis Farina was good as Cousin Avi. Benicio Del Toro was great as Franky Four Fingers. I obviously left some people out but there are so many characters in this movie and they are all so amazing, I couldn't possibly mention them all. This movie is more Guy Ritchie than if Guy Ritchie had a child with himself and that child was forced to sit through ONLY Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels for their entire life before having a child with themselves. I love Ritchie's style and cannot fault it. Many, many people will hate this movie purely because of Ritchie's style but I still adore it.The costume and set design is amazing.I love this movie. I regret not seeing it sooner. It is an awesome, hilarious, fantastic crime-comedy-thriller? I can 100% recommend you check it out if you can handle Ritchie levels higher than the distance to the moon and back, if you are standing on Pluto. I'll rate this movie 10 'lwjdadlsnld...Caravan.....adasdakwpwejh... me ma.....sddads's out of 10. Please see this awesome movie! It is awesome!
Floated2 Snatch has been critically acclaimed throughout and has been praised as such a great film with an interesting take on a British crime, involving many characters. However as watching the film, there were many characters but too many where we did not care for them. The plot at times is confusing with these characters all coming together but in the end we do not really care. For a film with a running time of a little over 1 hour 40 minutes, it feels longer than one should. As an ensemble cast, not many stand out except Jason Statham (in a very early role in his career) and Brad Pitt (though not in a good way, speaking with a difficult hard to hearing accent- and wondering why he took this role). Too many characters, and were not interesting, was hard to remember their names as well. What makes it worse is the constant jumping from characters and scenes. Snatch is quite the overrated film and wondering why it is currently in the IMDb top 250 with a rating of 8.3. Also praise with comedy and having humor but nothing into the film is quite at that, where the scenes feel bland and wondering as to what people found funny. Apart from some of the boxing scenes involving Brad Pitt, the scenes with Jason Statham and the last 20 minutes or so, Snatch is not a good recommend.
