Having recently witnessed the horrific results of a top secret project to bring the dead back to life, a distraught teenager performs the operation on his girlfriend after she's killed in a motorcycle accident.

Reviews
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
SanEat A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
bowmanblue If you're looking for an excellent, fun little zombie film, filled with laughs, gore and general gross-outs... then watch 'Return of the Living Dead.' That's 'Part I' that is. 'Part II' was basically 'zombies for kids' (even if it did try to follow on directly from the original and keep the humour/gore style intact. However, 'Part III' doesn't really feel like part of the saga at all. Yes, it continues to chart what happens to barrels of the chemical '245 Trioxin' (the stuff that creates zombies, if you're interested!), but, apart from that, it's a whole new film. You can understand those who enjoyed the first one (and the second didn't have too many fans to begin with) being disappointed with the third entry. It's really a sequel in name only. But, believe it or not, not a bad film.Yes, it doesn't have a budget and no, it doesn't really have any actors who are that famous, but it did have an original little concept (for its time). Back in 1993 the idea of zombies having an 'inner conscious' was actually something new. Since zombies came back into fashion, we've had all sorts of takes on that idea, but in the early nineties, when a girl dies before her time in a (easily prevented!) motorcycle accident, then her boyfriend uses his dad's access to the military base and its stores of Trioxin to bring her back. Naturally, things don't go to plan. Yes, his beloved Julie returns to him, but also with a desire to eat anyone not going out with her.Don't expect a masterpiece. It's one of those films that, if you like the genre and can find it for free (it must be on Netflix or the like by now!), then you'll probably enjoy it. The two primary characters are likable (if a little stupid at times) for you to care enough about and there's some decent (non CGI) gore to keep the 'claret-lovers' happy.
TheLittleSongbird The first Return of the Living Dead is by far the best of the series, being immensely entertaining and creepy with very little wrong. This second sequel, and the third in the series, is an improvement over the second, which relied on too much humour (most of which was very forced) and had very few scares, and certainly much better than the fourth and fifth films, both of which were horrendous, especially the latter.Return of the Living Dead Part III does have things wrong. It does start off poorly, with a lack of suspense, some cheesy and out of place comedy (though luckily the film is never too over-reliant on that, allowing the horror and scares to come out for much of the film) some of the worst of the limited budget and it felt like it had jumped to half-way through, and some of the story does feel and wear thin in a few places, doesn't quite sustain the running time, with a very clumsy final five minutes. The limited budget does sometimes show, in some cheap-looking sets and some shoddy effects. The zombies are also very underused. However, the film is very well shot and atmospherically lit, the zombie make-up is some of the best of the entire series and most of the special effects are good. The music is haunting and catchy, with a lovingly nostalgic 80s vibe that never felt dated or cheesily over the top. The scripting is not too bad, it is nowhere near as strained as the second film's and treats its Romeo and Juliet-like story to an enjoyably dark and moving effect if sometimes taking things a little too seriously. While the execution of the story is not perfect, it doesn't try too hard to be funny and it's nowhere near as dull or as incoherent as the succeeding two sequels. It is by far the darkest and most original of the series, it does offer some genuine scares and emotional impact, the gore is suitably harrowing and the last thirty minutes is mostly enjoyably over-the-top and poignantly tragic until the clumsy final five minutes. People will argue that it is nothing like the first two, and that is one of the main reasons why it is the most polarising of the five films and understandably, I for one didn't have a problem with it.The love story is handled with a good deal of emotion and doesn't get too sappy, saccharine or silly. The zombies are underused, but when they do appear they look great and have a real sense of fun and menace, while the characters are some of the more likable and less annoying of the series, Julie is a very interesting character and easy to root for. The direction is competent, and the acting is pretty good, Sarah Douglas chews the scenery is an enormously fun way (and this is coming from a person who is not a huge fan of that kind of acting) and Mindy Clarke is excellent as Julie. All in all, not perfect or great but pretty decent and by far the best of the sequels. 6/10 Bethany Cox
trashgang People told me to stay away from this movie not because it's scary as hell but being slowly and a lot of talking going on this doesn't offer anything to the genre. It's also hard to follow up and beat the original one who was in fact a comedy. This isn't a comedy this is a nineties horror and made in the era when horror was not done (late eighties, early nineties) people discarded this flick easily. Now that I finally have seen it I must say that the story itself is rather okay but what did made it a bit boring is when they are in the sewers that a lot of talking is going on. Interesting is the effects used here, just before the new era of horror and the entry of CGI this is all done on- camera which makes it a nice treat for old school horror buffs. Sure, some shots are taking out of Dawn and Day Of The Dead, you know, hands coming out of walls and the first zombie we see did remind me of Bub (Day Of The Dead 1985).Back to the effects, Brian Yuzna being the director here surely does now what effects did work back in the heydays of horror. If you see the melted zombie wandering through the corridors you will be reminded of From Beyond (1986) which he produced. The effects are sometimes really stunning and are to be honest the reason why you should watch this flick. But there are also the actors of course and geeks always said that Melinda Clark (Julie Walker) was the reason to watch it. She do gives a good performance and looking nowadays she is still busy having a main lead in the new Nikita series. But there are other reasons why some perverted geeks do like her here, she do shows her juggs a few times and once becoming a zombie she even has pierced nipples. It all starts rather good with the experiments and once Julie dies in a motorcycle accident it even becomes good but suddenly it falls into boredom to end again in great gory shots. Boba_Fett1138 Being not the biggest fan of the Return of the Living Dead-series, I of course did not have high hopes for this one. But as it turned out, this movie was not all that bad. Its change of settings and approach to the concept work refreshing and more entertaining than was the case in the first two movies but at the same time it still doesn't succeed in becoming a good movie as well.I honestly quite liked the movie for its first part. It was silly but it was entertaining nonetheless. Contrary to the first sequel, this movie wasn't just a simple rehash of the first "The Return of the Living Dead" movie, that has now become a sort of a cult-classic. This movie is actually having some new ideas in it, which is the foremost reason why I still rank it a bit higher than the first sequel "Return of the Living Dead Part II".But no, as it turns out in the end, this movie is also only just half good itself. And quite literally really. I often have this problem with Brian Yuzna movies. It's as if he's saying half way through; well, I gave you a good first half. I gave you a story, I gave you characters. Now it's time to let things go crazy and let me do my own thing! It's as if the movie is giving up half way through, or as if they ran out of its script and ideas to work with. The last 30 minutes or so of the movie are just too silly and seem out of place with the rest of the movie. I honestly would had preferred it if the movie had just ended after 1 hour and the last 30 minutes never existed.I have yet to see a Brian Yuzna that I like completely. He's a director that often comes in to a horror-series after it's already an established name and brand. He did this most notably with the Re-Animator-series.On a more positive note about this movie; I quite liked its effects. It was over-the-top but quite nice and gruesome looking. There maybe is not as enough gore and blood as you would expect but when the movie does go gory, it does it rather well. Not really a movie worth recommending but then again, this is how I feel about every Return of the Living Dead movie made.5/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
