After the events of the previous, fourth, instalment in the franchise Alice is a captive of the sinister Umbrella Organisation. She escapes from the room she had been held in with the help of Ada Wong. Ada tells her that her erstwhile enemy Albert Wesker no longer works for the Umbrella Corporation. Umbrella is now run but the 'Red Queen'. It is explained that Alice is being held at a large underground facility in what was once a Soviet submarine base on the remote Kamchatka Peninsula. The base is a test facility that contains accurate reconstructions the centres of New York, Tokyo and Moscow as well as the suburbs of Racoon City. Alice and Ada are to work their way through the facility to meet up with a commando team that is coming to rendezvous with them. As they progress Alice turns that Umbrella has been using the zones to test various 'biohazards' on a clone populations. Some of these clones are based on Alice and as they pass through the suburbs she meets Becky, the daughter of one such clone, and determines to rescue her. This film is very much about bridging the gap between the fourth and the final instalments of the series; knowing this is a bit of a problem as no matter what the threat or how bad things look we know Alice will ultimately survive. The other characters were okay but weren't really developed enough to care about. It isn't all bad of course; I liked the character of Becky, she reminded me of Newt from 'Aliens' and I did care about her survival. There is lots of action; the fight scenes are really rather good as were the various monster attacks. However the CGI effects are a bit too obvious at times
just because a film is inspired by a video game doesn't mean that it should occasionally look like one! The cast do a decent enough job. Overall this is far from great but it is a decent enough way to pass an hour and a half if you enjoyed the previous films in the series.

I honestly never thought I'd be sitting in the position to review the 5th, and soon to be 6th, film of the Resident Evil franchise. Usually by the time a franchise is 5 films and over a decade old, the series has gone through many changes and underwent several aesthetic iterations. You'd think they would reinvent the films several times over right? Well, with Resident Evil it's more of the same with every movie. Each film has their entertaining qualities. 'Retribution' has probably the finest action and most polished visual effects of the entire series, but there's nothing under the surface. It should come as no surprise to people familiar with the series as each film holds the same problem, but I'm foolish enough to think the next film will change. Here's hoping that 'The Final Chapter' does more than just impress the eyes. The funny thing is, 'Retribution' plays like it already is the "final chapter". Bringing back Michelle Rodriquez, Sienna Guillory, Boris Kodjoe, Oded Fehr, and Shawn Roberts, all of which whose characters were supposedly dead to the franchise. Which brings me to the most frustrating thing about this series. Characters come and go, actors come and go, settings come and go, without any real direction. It seems to me like every time one of these films goes into production they try to gather everyone from the franchise that they can, and then try to write a story around the actors. The story should always come first. This is the reason why when characters die in any Resident Evil film there is no emotional impact. Is it asking too much to develop characters a bit more in an action film?I can't say I can differentiate the plot of this film to any other in the series. Alice is going after Umbrella with the help of her friends and is forced to take on creatures of higher abilities and everyone's lives are at stake. There's nothing new and it's actually likely the least inventive of the series. Some cool action and certainly some polished CGI can save the experience. I guess.+Nice action/CGI-Characters come and go, and who really cares?-The story is exactly the same as it always is4.1/10

Why is there no zero in the options? If I could give it -10 I would.I don't have to say anything negative about this movie because others have done it.I would like to say something about the upcoming sequel resident evil the final chapter. That movie is going to suck big time, just like the other ones of this franchise. You might ask, "It hasn't come out yet so how can you tell?"The answer is, judging from previous movies namely afterlife and retribution, you can just see W S Anderson doesn't give a s..t about storytelling. This franchise is Anderson's attempt to keep his wife, Jovobitch, employed. In an interview many years ago, Jovobitch said with a smug face, "We make these movies to make money."The question is, are you going to keep letting Anderson and his wife serve moviegoers this crappy franchise and get your money?Enough said.

I don't know what they were thinking when they made this movie. First off, this movie has nothing to do with the video game franchise. I think they wanted to create an action and horror movie and failed in both because just like in the previous movies, the plot is beyond horrible and makes no sense whatsoever. The action scenes, stunts and special effects are OK but I wasn't really impressed; The characters are boring and everything else in this movie is a huge mess. Considering how boring movies based on video game series are, I still don't know why I decided to watch this movie in the first place. This is definitely one of the worst and most boring movies I have ever seen. Also I think they would be better off naming this movie something else, probably would get less hate that way.
