Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
vincenttciccarello By the way, this review is really an 8/10, not a 10/10. However, I'm giving this movie a 10/10 because it I don't think it deserves a 4.0 rating. It's not the best movie in the world, nor the worst. I liked this movie because it's funny, Norbit (Eddie Murphy) was funny himself. He gets married to a rude, chubby lady named Rasputia, who has 3 older brothers. Before Norbit gets married to Rasputia or even married her in the first place, he becomes friend with a nicer girl named Kate. Throughout the movie, we see Rasputia cheat on and pick on Norbit. She cheats on Nor it by having s*x with her dancing instructor in her dance class. Rasputia sometimes yells at Norbit and sometimes hits him. Towards the end of the movie, we realize that Kate's fiancé only wants to marry her for her money and that Rasputia's brothers wanted the money also. Also, Norbit and Kate get married and Rasputia and her brothers run off to Mexico. The End! Sure, the characters sound like a**holes, but their still funny.8/10
cinephile-27690 I usually would give this a 10, but my previous viewing makes me think a little differently. I'll return to that point in a moment. If you know your movie trivia like me, you know Eddie Murphy loves playing numerous characters. He plays a WHOLE family in the Nutty Professor movies, a dual role in Meet Dave, and 4 characters in my personal favorite-Coming To America. He does the same here:playing the titular character, his orphanage father, and hilariously-his obese female dog of a wife. The movie is PG-13 and really pushes it. This is why 2 stars have been removed. There is a ton of immoral and unnecessary content:1. Norbit comes home from work to find his wife Rasputia home from work early. Shocked, he looks for her-and catches her in bed with her dance instructor.2. This is followed by a chase after Norbit calls her the "queen of w*ores."3.A man who is about to be married meets up with numerous other women he is already married to. He is just marrying this woman for her moola.4.The whole plot centers on Norbit meeting up with his childhood crush and wanting to spend more time with her. This makes Rasputia jealous and she threatens to kill him if he spends more time with her. May I remind you that this is the same woman who slept with another man! There's also nick-picky stuff: like a man collecting offering in a church and he says "pay for your sins." That's not what that is for. But whatever. I'm giving it an 8 though if I am in the right mood I could give it a 10. If you are in the mood for stupid, this will fit the bill. Otherwise, this will disappoint. Before you complain about the inappropriate comment and the "woman played by a man" aspect-remember that Eddie Murphy is that woman. This is the same guy who played a Grandma that stated at the dinner table that "having relations is beautiful" and made a stand up routine bit about child abuse. This is nothing new. Norbit will satisfy raunchy Eddie Murphy fans-and if you complain-remember that Mulan still exists.
gary-444 There is a market for gross out humour, as box office sales for this film demonstrate. But for me, this slew of lazy, stereotypical fare is neither funny, nor worthy in any sense.Eddie Murphy is a talented actor whose work needs discipline. Here there is none. Fat people can be funny, as can oddballs, but good humour requires that you laugh with them, rather than at them. On too many occasions watching Norbit I simply cringed, in only one scene, did I laugh – when a big fat black momma takes a water chute and flies off the end.Thandi Newton plays Norbit's out of reach love interest, and is stranded, beautiful and engaging around the dross which laps all around her. Thirteen year olds, struggling to keep up at school, and behind with their reading, will enjoy the base humour and limited horizons which this film offers. For the rest, there will be much else to amuse. Norbit, played by Murphy, is squashed by the whale like Rasputia, played by Murphyhaving been taken in by the wacky Mr Wong played by Murphy and thats it, You have to endure another 101 minutes of purgatory.Director Brian Robbins forte is in American comedy series for TV, where an episode may last only 21 minutes and one joke can be stretched out, but he wholly fails to produce a feature film worth of comedy. I may have seen worse films, but I can't name them right now.
pooterbear1 This is my absolute favorite movie! Anyone who doesn't like this movie basically doesn't know comedy! I Laugh from the beginning to the end! I think this is Eddie Murphy's best ever! I was at least 8 or 9 when I first saw this movie and I absolutely loved it! The movie might be a little old now but it still has enough comedy to make me laugh for a lifetime! I like the part where Rasputia was looking for Norbit and she went into the Italian Restaurant and she said "where's Norbit?" And the Italian said "I don't know!" And then Rasputia said "we'll then who's been eating the turkey a$$?!" This movie might be rated PG-13 but I was 7 when I saw this and I understood everything and I laugh the whole time I never got bored and I never got tired as a matter of fact I watched it 3 times in a row and it was really late when we finished the movie the first time so you can tell the movie is amazing and this is being reviewed by a teen saying this!
