Reviews
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
azdkelly Warning This Review may contain Spoilers When I first saw this film I was expecting a film that would simply be full of large belly laughs and maybe a witty line or two. What I got was a teen film about growing up and realizing that sometimes reality is different than fantasy and sometimes surprisingly better. The film's lead Hayden Panettiere has the makings of a young Kate Hudson. She is able to make the most outrageous situation in this comedy seem plausible. The film's main premise is a valedictorian professes his love to Beth Cooper during his speech as well as make jabs at other characters as well most notably Stratford native Shawn Roberts as Beth's built army boyfriend. The film begins as a comedy but it is a comedy that likes to bring out little moments of drama. Small touching scenes that Ms. Panettiere handles very well. This was absolutely not the film that I was expecting. I liked it better then I thought I would. However it still has faults. It is a little slow towards the end but a great little scene on a dock brings everything right back on course.Overall it is definitely a film for the thirteen and over crowd but even adults can find a thing or two to like in this film.
alsation72 I caught this on cable, and at first thought I was catching the last five minutes, but no it was the beginning. I like how it all starts just as school ends.It hooks you from the start, being well-acted and quick-paced ... I was very surprised to see how badly people have reviewed it because it really caught my attention and held it. Hayden P is great in the titular role, and Paul Rust is a great new talent, playing her greatest admirer. This film chronicles a young man's transition from besotted boy to disillusioned young man as he realizes that, shock horror, Beth Cooper is not as perfect in real life as he had imagined for so long. All the players do a great job and I'd recommend it to the John Hughes die-hard's (like me).
axismladen Too stupid to be funny or serious is probably the best way to describe this movie. Low, clichéd and highly overused humor combined with some childish drama is just not working anymore. It never did, actually! I constantly felt like the movie was trying to be something like Dazed & Confused when it was actually very, very, very far away from being anything like it. I Love You, Beth Cooper is about a guy who uses his graduation speech to finally declare his love to his long time crush. And his entire school and some other people. Now, if any of you people who are about to graduate is thinking of doing something like this, i got one word for you, don't!!!! Not only will you be embarrassed, but also the girl or the guy you like/love and probably everyone else in the audience just by listening to you making an idiot out of your self. The movie is constantly switching tones from being 'funny?' to being overly dramatic and even philosophical. Needles to say that none of those thing's work in this movie. I haven't read the book, but if it's true that this adaptation is actually faithful to the original material than i'm not planning to either. While Hayden Panettiere somehow manages to stay nonirritating and even showcases some talent, the guy who played the leading guy (Paul Rust) is definitely a miscast not only for this movie, but any other too. He is just as irritating as a person can get! That's probably why no one knows what happened to his character in Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds! I won't say a lot about the supporting characters because none of them, not even the leading ones, are actually characters. They're all more like names used to fill the void. Actually, the only role i liked in the entire movie was Denis' father who was obviously a copy of Jim's father in American Pie (played by Euegen Levy). I guess movie borrows a bit from everything, but fails horribly at putting it all together.I'm not sure if there was at least one scene in this entire movie that made me laugh. But even if there was, it surely wasn't funny enough to remember it, anyway. They tried a lot of thing's with this film. Drama, comedy, adventure.... But, unfortunately for whoever made this movie and for whoever's seen it, not everyone is Richard Linklater and this movie is for sure not even close to being anything like Dazed & Confused, which is what it tried to be. Unfunny, unoriginal, and so on............... Not good!
bonniekenna I actually got this movie because I thought it was be horrible and would be a good way to clear my mind of stress and fall asleep. I ended up staying up late because it was surprisingly funny. While, I will admit, the movie is very stupid, it is also very hilarious!!! I'm a huge fan of Superbad, Old School, etc...Usually when such far fetched things happened in a movie that make it even "stupider", I don't like them...I honestly haven't laughed as hard as I did, in certain points in that movie, in a longggggg time! If you're looking for a movie for some simple humor...this wins! I remember seeing the previews for this some time back, and kind of wanted to see it. And then when the movie began, I was a little disappointed, but disappointment turned into me being surprised as to the humor within it!
