BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Sabah Hensley This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Davis P I wanna make it very clear that this is a Disney Channel original movie. It is not exactly held to the same level as other movies. I watched this film keeping in mind that it is made for TV and targeted towards children. I will say that I liked the casting, I thought the actors fit their individual roles. Also, the musical numbers and singing is very good mostly. There are a couple of the teenage actors that haven't quite gotten where they need to be as far as singing goes, but Kristen Chenoweth was of course incredible. How could you star in one of the biggest Broadway hits ever and not be superb at singing. So I really enjoyed her and most of the singing. I also liked the character Mal, and I liked Ben too, and their connection. They had great chemistry. The plot is very very predictable, you can for sure predict what is gonna happen next. Of course that is a thing with Disney Channel, so just know that. I think this film is pretty good for a child audience. 7/10 for Descendants.
Reno Rangan This is a great concept, I don't know why Disney did not turn it into a theatrical film. As per the television standards, this film succeeds from all the aspects. The casting was good, but the focus was not distributed equally. May be they kept it for the sequels, in each to tell everyone's tale as the centre. So this is about the descendants of the greatest villains of Disney's fairy tales. They all got admitted to the Auradon Prep located near to their banished land. A chance to follow their own path, particularly to cut off bad influences of their parents. But would they accept the offer and make it work or there any agenda to avenge for the past are the remaining parts. It's a musical like any fairytale. But average tracks. The performances were good, even the graphics are very acceptable. So colourful and visually appealing. I think this kind of trend began with the recent success of 'Maleficent'. So you must not expect the moral values, particularly I'm saying it for the parents. Because, this is about the villains and their children, so the majority of the film leans on the negative factors. But as usual, all ends well, if you consider that a message or learning point for your children.Directed by 'Hocus Pocus' filmmaker. I was looking forward to watch it since it came out. Finally, I saw it and enjoyed it, but not the great film. The children's would love it, especially those who are familiar with the characters and its origin. Surely lot to expect, but I advise to keep your expectation low to benefit maximum. I have heard, they are already making the second film, which is due later this year. So I hope this time I watch it on the time.6/10
nicoleannereau I watched this film with my niece because she had been dying to see it for ages. After hearing mixed reviews, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The songs are fun, the story is good and although the characters could have been slightly better, Id say overall it was worth the watch. There were a few things that kinda niggled for me though.1. Belle is meant to be all sweetness and seeing the good in people when others cant, yet as Queen she doesn't want to see good in the 'Lost Kids' (as my niece calls them) just because their parents were Villains? Felt like a character flaw to me. She didn't give them a chance to be good until the very end, when they proved they were good. So that's not really giving them a chance...its just accepting what she can see in front of her. If she hadn't given Beast a chance and seen the good in him before he fully showed that side, it would have been a very different story..2. Preppy Prince's trying to rap really didn't work for me. It kinda made me cringe anytime a rap started, it just didn't feel right for them and they didn't look right doing it. I enjoyed the songs, I just feel like they shouldn't have tried to add rap into them.3. Although I liked the songs and they were catchy enough for some of them to still be stuck in my head, I feel like they over-edited the singing too much, so it didn't look right when they were singing. It didn't look natural. Which I understand may sound stupid as its just a film, but it didn't actually look like it was them singing at some points. Kristen Chenoweth is an amazing singer, but even her singing was edited far too much for me to enjoy it as I normally would.4. Jays personality is far more like Aladin than Jaffar. I like Jay, but it didn't feel believable that he was Jaffar's son. Maybe its something about growing up on the Island and being the 'Bad Boy', I don't know. Of course this could be explained if I read the books, which I think I might have to do as I did enjoy the story. But all in all, I think this is an enjoyable film that is definitely worth a watch for a chilled day.
averymeier The movie Descendants has a good overall plot and strong backstory, however this movie's script, story line, and general message needs a stronger viewpoint that supports the idea of the story better. In the script there were several spots where the communication/dialogue between characters could have been reworded or improved. Also, I feel the overall message, or in other words, "learning lesson" of the story was a bit odd for a Disney Channel Original. Instead of them trying to teach kids to be themselves, it seemed more like they were implying that everyone who lived with the "good guys" we're completely perfect, and that in order for the kids of the villains to remain there, they had to be like them. Not everyone is perfect. I think it would have been a better if the resolution were that they remained the same, but their new friends excepted them as they were.
