ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
TheNameBrand Ya know I grew up reading those books and they were a good time. And this movie was actually a surprisingly good time. Everything about it is an omage to those old books, and it just took me back. For a kids movie I found myself entertained between the toilet jokes, and I liked how they made some bold choices with the animation, and the story telling, just to make sure that it was an accurate representation of the source material.
Ersbel Oraph I was hoping for something like the Sausage Party, or a dumbed down, family friendly South Park. And this is not. It is dumbed down. It is family friendly. It seems to make fun, while at the same time embracing, the Super Hero culture. It might work as a filler and the story runs smooth, yet at the end it's still: so what? It looks like it has been done by too many minds and hands and many things do not fit. First you have the mandatory school as a place of killing the fun and the creativity and than you have a few pro teacher union slogans fit in.
SnoopyStyle George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) are best of friends. They are pranksters at school and make their Captain Underpants comics together. George writes the story and Harold does the drawings. Their nemesis is principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms). Classmate Melvin (Jordan Peele) snitches on the boys to Mr. Krupp who threatens to separate them into different classes. With a cereal prize ring, George hypnotizes Krupp to becoming Captain Underpants. Life is fun until the arrival of Professor Poopypants (Nick Kroll) who is hired as science teacher. This is fun for poop joke fans of all ages. The characters are good and there is a good story. It's straight forward with a good message in the end. Other than some nitpicks, this is solid fun for kids and adults. I didn't notice the voice work which is kinda interesting. I could probably do with less wild animation action which leads a great switch during the climatic fight scene. It just shows the imagination within this standard kids movie.
Jithin K Mohan From the name and the positive reactions, it got I thought this must be a film that is funny and somehow trying to break some stereotypes but it turns out to be nothing special. There are a lot of moments that made me smile but it never made me laugh and if someone doesn't understand poop jokes he got to be the villain? Seriously, the jokes are not that funny or even offensive considering the kinds of jokes used. The way the villains are portrayed is the worst part of the film.
