Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
AverageJoesDriveInPodcast The 2005 version of Assault On Precinct 13 was fairly well done. It's a good action flick that takes place almost entirely in a confined space. The film was loaded with good actors, their performances were well done and I don't think I ever once felt like any character took me out of the film. With that being said, John Leguizamo's character did start to irritate me after awhile. I'm not sure if that was the characters intention or just the performance in general. I never once was bored and it moves along at a decent clip despite the almost 2hr runtime. There were a few moments here and there where it felt a little bogged down, but those parts didn't last long. The violence level is over the top in spots, they don't shy away from what's happening. While, it's not super gory, it is compared to a lot of modern-day action films. There's more of a late 70's early 80's vibe going on in that sense. Some of the characters actions were a bit predictable, but I almost expect that in a film like this. I feel like most of the people I've talked to didn't care for it, but it's also not one I hear many folks discussing either.
Sagsag If you were hoping for an avant-garde action movie produced by a Frenchman, think again - Richet is no Luc Besson. The actual action, by itself, is decent at most, and that's the only thing going for this movie.Actors performances are lackluster, screen writing is sloppy and lazy, suffering from lack of continuity and a formulaic plot, with twists so obvious, I foresaw them literally an hour before they eventually took place.Characters are superficial and stereotypical, and fail to promote empathy, sympathy, or any other sentiments for them. Decisions and actions made by the characters (both "good guys" and "bad guys") often fail to make any sense.
g-bodyl Assault on Precinct 13, which is the remake of John Carpenter's 1976 version of the same name is an entertaining action film with credible performances, cool action scenes, a nice story, and just gives you a fun time. It's not going to win any awards, but this is how you make a "B" film. I haven't seen the original so I can't compare, but this movie stands well on it's own. This film is about a cop named Jake and a few others who are about to shut down their station for good on New Year's, but when a gang of violent prisoners including a guy named Bishop arrive, they are attacked by an outside gang and these prisoners and cops must gang up together in order to survive the night. The acting is nothing special, but it's nothing bad either. Each actor gives a solid, credible performance. Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne are two respected actors and I liked them in these roles often squaring off against each other.Overall, this is a solid action film. For a mid-January release, this movie is quite good. I don't know if fans of the original will like this, but action junkies will totally dig it. It's a good old-fashioned shoot-em-up. I rate this film 8/10.
FlashCallahan An update of the Carpenter classic, which itself was an update of Rio Bravo, the film is slightly different, this has more to do with police corruption, rather than a gang getting revenge. It's a slightly different film for Hawke to be in, he must have been funding something, but he really excels in this movie. There is some sort of back story involving Hawke and a NARC style opening, but that just sets the mood for the rest of the film, showing that Hawkes Character is weak, thus making the group vulnerable. Then we have Fishburne as the 'bad' guy. He is all swagger in this and very little else. It's as if he's saying 'I was just in three of the biggest science fiction films of the last ten years which were not Star Wars and don't you forget it!!!'.Byrne is wasted, looking moody and cold. Th rest of the cast are okay, especially Bello, who does convince as a 'shrink'.But what is most striking about the film is how brutal and relentless the film is. No one is safe, and the director doesn't flinch when disposing of characters (Bello the most significant), and this makes the film a little more urgent. It's nothing special, not a patch on the original, and Fishbourne becomes annoying toward the end, but for a little standalone action movie, it passes the time, and the brutality makes it deeply unsettling.
