A Little Romance Trailers

Intellectually precocious teenager Lauren King lives in Paris with her somewhat ditzy mother. On a movie set, she strikes up a friendship with teenage film buff Daniel Michon. After Lauren's mother forbids her to date the outspoken Daniel, the young lovebirds team up with eccentric pickpocket Julius to run away to Venice, where, according to legend, a couple who kiss under the Bridge of Sighs will stay together forever.

Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
evanston_dad A simply delightful little film about two young kids who fall in love and the adult accomplice (Laurence Olivier) who helps them with their plan to get away from the other overbearing adults in their lives and seal their love with a kiss under a certain bridge in Venice.I think what really makes "A Little Romance" something special is the strain of melancholy running through it. These particular young 'uns are in the full flush of love, but they're surrounded by examples of people who have had it and lost it or never had it to begin with. It gives a sense of urgency to their mission and makes it feel more important than a mere whim. The performances are uniformly excellent, though Sally Kellerman could have been directed to dial it back a little bit as the nightmare of a mother she's asked to play. The film is also overall a little long - - a good 15 minutes shaved off its running time wouldn't have been amiss. But otherwise this is a charming film.Winner of the Oscar for Best Original Score in 1979 and a nominee for Best Adapted Screenplay.Grade: A
jarrodmcdonald-1 I missed this picture the first time it aired on TCM a few months ago. Loved all the on-location European filming. Not sure how I felt about Olivier's performance-- it seemed a bit clichéd, too mannered in places. I think what we get with him is someone who decides when he reads the script how he is going to play it. It's all worked out in his mind before he even steps in front of the cameras. The problem is that his instincts are not always correct and he does not adjust or improvise on the fly. So if everyone else is growing in their performances, and he is not-- if he loses spontaneity, then his acting starts to look too old-fashioned. In a film like A LITTLE ROMANCE, it is more noticeable that he is working opposite very young costars with very young energy if they are soaring and he is just standing still. In sharp contrast to this, we have Broderick Crawford in scenes that seem a lot more natural and accommodating to the younger costars.
Paul Gao This movie is very romantic and fantastic.Beautiful scenes ,fantastic story, great director, cute and lovely little stars, respectful and kindly-minded grandpa, graceful attitude towards love and life. It's very relax and humor,I love this french love story.Wonderful! I think it's one of the best love stories in all kinds of films.Though they are boy and girl, they are very pure and courage toward their love.Under the bridge, they eventually made their love promise and wishes. And the grandpa is very kind though he is a thief,he tried his best to help these little "pals" and made his best wish for them.I will never forget their smile, promise and experience,it's very very impressive.I suggest everybody could have chance to appreciate this great movie, you will be impressed by this pure love story--a little romance!
SBowe7722 There are no words to express the real beauty of this movie, nor the depth of its import. There are those who have lived in such innocence and courage as the children in this movie, but in this new millennium such would be as rare as purity itself. After 106 minutes of near flawless value, it makes one wonder what has happened to wonder and gentleness; it seems they have journeyed far away, taking with them respect and graciousness. Such a treasure as this film makes one long for a time of civility and trust. Diane Lane had an auspicious beginning here, though too many of her later films lacked the substance of this one. Sally Kellerman does what she does best, and Arthur Hill seems the father of whom all daughters dream. By all means, rent this film and share the adventure!
