Skunkyrate Gripping story with well-crafted characters

StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

jwflight Just into the first season, and I'm already surprised by the politics that didn't make an impression on me when the series first came out. Earth being made the center of the universe again...anti-alien sentiment. Really hits home in 2018.

cygnus_09 This is by far and away, the single best ever written sifi ever written. It's almost impossible to state just how well each of the characters were written. Each character evolved throughout the series. I hated Londo and G'Kar in the first season. But by the end of season 4, they were two of my favorites. The ISN episodes which moved the series forward so much. The absolute darkness of Emperor Cartaga. The political underhanded scheming of Londo. Poking fun at someone else's expense like when Sheridan was making fun of Ivanova for having dreams about showing up to work naked. The list is endless. So many intricacies throughout this whole show. You never knew if the show would end on a bad note, or a good one. Or even when things seem great, something comes up and smacks you in the head just to put you back in your karmatic misery again. Nothing lets up. The very few bad acting/scenes I can think of off the top of my head, are: During the first major battle with the Shadows, there is a scene where it is just music, and you watch the characters talk silently, while directing the battle. This scene works beautifully in this episode. But they tried to replicate it in a later episode, that had nowhere near the same effect. Another scene, is where Delenn is running down the ramp on the bridge of the White Star. She is clearly wearing a 3" lift kit on her feet, and there is a very hollow wooden clomp clomp clomp sound as she descends the ramp. The Minbari are thousands of years more advanced than Humans are, and would obviously have better construction than that. But those are really the only two sort of screw-ups that I can think of. Brilliant show, brilliantly written, and brilliantly acted. 10 years ago, I was against JMS re-doing this show for a few reasons. Most especially, the characters wouldn't be of the same caliber as the original ones. And knowing Hollywood, they would have B5 totally screwed up through their SJW social policies. But today, I wouldn't mind a rehash of it, if it could be kept true to what B5 is, without any SJW interference. I think it's time to binge watch this again...

HaroldNaples It is very easy to get discouraged after trying to pick this show up off the shelf and dust it off, as the first season is rather terrible, boring and has easily one of the worst examples of dialog writing in sci-fi. Dialogs are a weak spot of the series in general but it gets much better as it goes. There is a lot of awkward, corny, lowbrow, fail sort of humor throughout which some might find appealing if only ironically. The acting talent is rather sketchy, with the main cast being mostly bad and the support cast, especially aliens mostly good or even great. Story development, once it gets going, is the strength of this series. Drama with a capital D. Some awkward choices are made though as in the process of retooling of any show. As it starts to improve markedly in the middle of second season, they replace the telepath with a half baked plot and a worse actress, do the inquisition to highlight the mediocre talent of one of the main cast and then drop the Marcus-bomb, who can be described as the JJBinks of B5, cringe worthy in every scene. After the great climax of the earth and centauri subplots the resolution of the main one comes off as rather pathetic, an afterthought. Despite being very uneven on all levels, this show is well worth a viewing or even two, but I do recommend skipping or fast forwarding through most of the first season as well as some of the choice episodes and scenes of the rest, so keep that remote handy.

WeLikeTVScreen After the first 8 episodes of viewing i was not that impressed.No storyline in the show seemed to catch my interest and some of the characters were not to my liking. Garabaldi for example i found to be simply ridiculous and played really bad by Jerry Doyle. Londo was to much of a comical character for my liking and i immediately disliked him for that. The main character Commander Sinclair was also a rubbish character played badly. Luckily i knew when watching that the lead role would later be replaced and played by Bruce Boxleitner who usually is a good actor.(I also knew that Melissa Gilbert would be in a couple of episodes and i looked forward to that)Susan Ivanova was a good character so far in but i didn't always like how the actress Claudia Christian chose to act out the scenes. G'Kar was very good and well played and i looked forward to more story lines involving him. Also Delenn played by Mira Furlan was very good and probably so far in my favorite character. :)One thing i immediately liked about Babylon 5 is that they have experimented more with the appearance of aliens than many other sci-fi series who often portray aliens as basically humans with a few bumps on the forehead or with a different shaped nose.After watching a few episodes i wished for development of the characters and for some better story lines. I also hoped that it would be a bit brighter. And i mean literally. I felt like that space station didn't had any lights.When reaching the mid of season 2 certain things had become just as i though. Things picked up a bit when Boxleitner took over the lead role.Londo, who i disliked from the start had i my opinion became a more serious character which was good but at the same time Delenn, who i really liked was now almost the comical character. She still had serious story lines but i didn't like at all that they changed her. She's also changed appearance and i didn't care at all for her more human look. One really good thing about the show is Walter Koenig's very interesting role. Unfortunately at this stage he's not nearly in as many episodes as one would wish for.The episodes in season 2 are alright at best i'd say. Good enough to watch but not good enough to watch a second time.When reaching the end of the show i must use the word roller-coaster to describe the quality. I'm glad to say that Walter Koenig's character became a recurring one and he is brilliant all the way through.The storyline about the war between the Centauri and the Narns was great! The characters stepped up and those stupid comic moments were finally gone. And i even started to like Londo who was from the beginning a comical character. Some of the shows best scenes was during this era of the series and involved Londo.I think i'm going against the flow a bit when i say that during the second part of season 4 when the storyline was about earth civil war was the most boring episodes of all. I could hardly get through them.But during the last season the show really picked up. Season 5 is really good and the characters seems to finally at that point be in the right places. Londo is now one of the best and most interesting ones. G'kar is very important again for the story (he was almost forgotten during last half of season 4)Overall i would say that many of the episodes (especially half of season 4) are totally over rated and once is definitely enough times to watch them.Season 5 is absolutely the best part of this series surprisingly considering and also the first half of season 4.So...Roller-coaster.(Silly observation)All the way through the series they totally over use the terms "I Repeat" or "I say again" Feels sometimes like they say that in each and every line.
