The Cable Guy Trailers

When recently single Steven moves into his new apartment, cable guy Chip comes to hook him up—and doesn't let go. Initially, Chip is just overzealous in his desire to be Steven's pal, but when Steven tries to end the 'friendship', Chip shows his dark side. He begins stalking Steven, who's left to fend for himself because no one else can believe Chip's capable of such behaviour.

Reviews
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
benjaminweber This is the perfect Jim Carrey film: a comedy, but also a horror film with a more serious message at its heart. Jim Carrey's performance in this is nothing short of awesome. His portrayal of the deranged cable guy who just wants a friend is extremely sinister, while also being entertaining and warm in all the right places. His usual zaniness is there throughout, except subtly tweaked. When combined with the performances of his co-stars, whose characters all behave like normal people, this gives the nail-biting tension that pervades this film. The plot is excellent too, mirroring the balance between comedy and horror in Carrey's performance. It also keeps the audience guessing, never quite going in the direction they expect. There are a couple of subplots as well, which finally connect together in an explosive climax. This is a must-see for any fan of either horror or comedy. An innovative and brilliant film.
atlasmb Directed by Ben Stiller, "The Cable Guy" is a great vehicle for the talents of Jim Carrey, who plays the titular character aka Chip Douglas. Matthew Broderick plays Steven, who is moving into a new apartment after his girlfriend asks him to move out of the apartment they shared. On the day he moves, he waits hours for the cable guy to show up, which he finally does, but Steven gets a lot more than he bargained for as Chip proves to be intrusive, obnoxious, insinuating, and parasitic--yet sometimes lovable. Jim Carrey's performance is a tour de force, displaying the wide range of his acting talents. Some of this is due to a good script, but Carrey undoubtedly riffs in some scenes.Broderick does a fine job as the reasonable man who lacks the tools to deal with a force of nature like Chip. Like putty in the hands of a master manipulator, Steven slowly loses control over his life."The Cable Guy" is an homage to the many films about stalkers, especially those who imagine themselves to be spurned friends. The film contains many references to television shows and movies (even in its casting)--an element of enjoyment for viewers who like to spot them. Thanks to excellent editing, the final version of the film walks the line between darker elements and a lighter, comedic tone very successfully.
Irishchatter I have to say, Jim Carrey really did a good job in playing a criminal cable guy! He would honestly make you laugh even if some his jokes were definitely uncalled for. Matthew Broderick was good too as he can also play a very stressed out businessman who is trying to get his love life sorted and having to come across a cable guy freak! Man, I would hate to have a hard life like that!I was surprised to see Ben Stiller hasn't acted in this movie but he was shown as a criminal on television, I found that rather odd to be honest. He was the director or this right? So then, why couldn't act in this movie at all? He would make it even better in my opinion! I didn't find the ending very realistic, I would've thought that the cable guy would die from that fall because believe me, anyone would! Ben Stiller should've either killed off the character or get him arrested by the police. It would've been better to be honest.I suggest anyone who is a hardcore Jim Carrey fan to watch this!
vidst I usually don't like dark comedies, but this one is an exception. It is well done and actually has humor. Through exaggeration and absurdity the movie achieves psychological realism. The most biting and accurate scene is the one in which Jim Carrey's character has the family playing porno password. It is spot on.Most of the reviewers who pan the movie simply did not understand it. Both Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick gave great performances.Watch this movie. You may say, when the movie ends, "huh?" But the next morning you will appreciate it.Nine out of ten stars.
