Reviews
BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Orla Zuniga It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Super Rhino" is an animated short film from 2009, so this one will have its 10th anniversary two years from now. It was directed by Nathan Greno, his first directorial effort and he went on to make Tangled afterward. It is a spin-off to the Disney animated Oscar nominee Bolt and runs for slightly over 4 minutes. Girl (Miley Cyrus) and dog (Scooby Doo Frank Welker) got caught by the evil scientist (Malcolm McDowell), but luckily for them a hamster with insane dodging skills and laser beams coming out of his eyes is out there for the rescue. That's it and for four minutes it is okay I guess. Eventually, there is a decent Miley Cyrus references when the hamster performs one of her greatest hits in a(n intentional) cringeworthy fashion. Still i must say this short film did not get me curious about Bolt that I still haven't seen and also there was nothing really memorable about this very short film. Like I wrote in the title, I think it is really only worth checking out if you are a huge Bolt fanboy/-girl. Otherwise you can skip it. loving animation is not enough I am afraid because I do and it's not enough to enjoy this one. Admittedly, at this runtime you cannot really do much wrong. But I still give it a thumbs-down. Definitely needed more Miley Cyrus, one of the most talented artists of our generation when she relies on her skills and not on her (admittedly massive) sex appeal. Thumbs down overall for Rhino.
gtyj1990 Included on the Blu-ray Disc with Bolt (2008), this short begins with the star canine and his owner Penny in peril from "The Man with the Green Eye", trapped within his fortress protected by overwhelming defenses, tied up and suspended high above a bottomless pit that's surrounded by fire. So Penny's father transforms Rhino (similar to Bolt's transformation in the feature film) into a super hamster, capable of rescuing his friends. The filmmakers used many of the same sequences, giving Rhino the same powers as Bolt, to affect the rescue and save the day ... before he wakes up - having dreamed it all in his hamster ball - in bed with Mittens, Penny, and Bolt.
