Reviews
Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
GamerTab That was an excellent one.
Michelle Ridley The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
Vinny37 I began to watch, wanly hoping for a decent martial arts action flick. The idea of post-hypnotic control is interestingly scary, and a fifth column composed of national patriots is engaging interaction. But my rule of thumb is to switch off the moment an F-word is wrongly used. As a word for marital sex it's fine, but as a contempt word, precisely because of its core human relationship association, it undermines individuals who speak it and those who hear it - verbal abuse that can batter the mind and undermine us. So, no matter how exciting the film might be, off it's gone, leaving a trace of filth in my gullet. I weep for Seagal.
Celticnationalist STEVEN SEAGAL's Direct-to-Video career since his last Theatrical bomb that was 'HALF PAST DEAD' 8 years ago has been pretty terrible, with the only half decent DTV release being 'BELLY OF THE BEAST' in a sea of awful trash, So my expectation were rock bottom going into this.SUBMERGED is not THAT bad, but it isn't THAT good either, in essence it's a rip-off of THE DIRTY DOZEN with STEVEN SEAGAL playing Mercenary Chris Cody being freed from Prison and reunited with his previously incarcerated team, but there is one catch, They have to take down a renegade Scientist who has created some sort of mind control technology which has turned American Soldiers into mind controlling killers. There's plenty of action throughout, especially in the last quarter with a very high body countCo-Starring B-Movie Martial Artist Gary Daniels in a minor role & Former Footballer turned Movie tough guy Vinnie Jones as one of the good guys. There really is no need to go into the acting on display, because this being a Seagal Flick - The Acting is neither here nor there, It's decently Directed by Anthony Hickox (who has dozens of B-Movies to his name) The Plot on the other hand is muddled and incoherent but I've come to expect that from Seagal.Pleasant enough trash, It's not up there with Seagal's best (Under Siege) but it won't go down among his worst (Flight of Fury,Into the Sun & Shadow Man) Keep your expectations low and if you're in the mood for some mindless action, then you should enjoy.*** out of *****
Ian Taylor This was an awful disappointment for this director. Hickox has made some really good B Movie fantasy flix. This was a disappointment for many British television regulars who well deserved the chance to appear in a film and got under served by terrible lighting, editing and scripting. This was a disappointment for Vinnie Jones - brilliant if the director and scriptwriter understands his place in UK iconography and uses him as such (check out Lock, Stock... and Mean Machine) - but he needs to be used right. This was not, however, a disappointment for Seagal. He has always been poor beyond belief and he just gets worse and worse as his self-indulgent self-belief gets bigger and more arrogant. He doesn't act at all and he's out of shape. How can he have the shame to accept a paycheck for top billing and then not even perform to his own extremely limited standards???
KHayes666 I can accept DTV movies for what they are, low budget with a plot full of holes. But what saves this one was the supporting cast rather than the overall effort by Seagal.A no goodnik militant named Hilan is working with an evil doctor (played brilliantly by Nick Brimble) to come up with a mind control device. After its completed they use their device to assassinate a US ambassador and its up to Seagal and his troops to save the day. Thats where it comes down to the supporting cast, Vinnie Jones is the man in his role, Nick Brimble played his role even better. Hell Raicho Vasilev....a veteran stunt man makes a vanity appearance as one of Seagal's troops. Hell even William Hope from Aliens is in this one. Add in a bunch of unknowns and its really not that bad.You can overlook the plot holes such as since when is Uruguay armed with terrorists up the wazoo? The movie appeared to be about Seagal trapped on a sub, but he was only on it for about 15 minutes or so, talk about false advertising. Didn't know you can simply walk on to an opera stage and not get attacked by security either. Again, all this can be overlooked if you're a fan of the Seagal movies to begin with, but the cast is what keeps it watchable. If you don't like the plot, at least stick around to see what Vinnie Jones says or does next. The highlight of the movie is when Henry absolutely beats the crap out of Plowand, very brutal.6 out of 10
