After learning that a boy their age has been accidentally killed near their rural homes, four Oregon boys decide to go see the body. On the way, Gordie, Vern, Chris and Teddy encounter a mean junk man and a marsh full of leeches, as they also learn more about one another and their very different home lives. Just a lark at first, the boys' adventure evolves into a defining event in their lives.

Redwarmin This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Murphy Howard I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
ridazzle It's hard to put in to words how much I honestly despise this film. It wasn't funny, it wasn't touching, it didn't show any "coming of age" at all, it didn't show much bonding....... and don't even get me started on that ending!
djfrost-46786 Would love to give this movie an 8, but u have Chunk twin from Goonies. Not only that you have the chicken scene from Footloose. All movies came out before. Yes hats off Sandlot rips this movie off. Still I acted out alot of scenes as a kid. This movie rips classic movies off!!!!
cinemajesty Movie Review: "Stand By Me" (1986)A fine little screen gem delivered as Academy-Award nominated adaptation from a Stephen King novella as director Rob Reiner navigates calmly and precise with his youngster Hollywood cast, led by late acting talent River Phoenix (1970-1993) and his faithfull fellows Will Wheaton, Corey Feldman coming along on a trip "Into the wild" of summer 1959 within the woodlands of Castlerock, Oregon when nemesis character portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland and his street thugs friends are in pursuit of finding a dead friend's corpse, which then eventually happens at well-location-scouted riverside as teenage confrontations down to the knife thickens, putting my mind into reminiscene of last year's "It: Part I", where director Andres Muschietti had been able to create the some kind of morbid, nostalgic; summer heat atmosphere within scenes of encircling as struggling teenagers in search of life's answers, making it as "Stand by Me" a major success to audience attendance in terms of revenue margins as here Columbia Pictures can rebound up to seven times the production budget in releasing U.S. movie summer of 1986. Eric Stevenson This is a film based on one of Stephen King's works, albeit a shorter one. What makes this movie great is how authentic it is. My only complaint is that I don't like to see the image of these kids smoking. It's also a little too short, but still good. Over the years, I saw clips of this film and was certainly glad to see the whole thing. The movie is narrated by one of the characters as an adult kind of like "A Christmas Story" or "The Sandlot". I do love movies like that with feature kids acting so realistically. This takes place in the 1950's, but I feel as though it's truly timeless. It's basically one scene after another of these kids doing stuff like swimming, roasting marshmallows and running. I guess Stephen King is pretty fond of bullies. I am reminded of the thugs from "It" especially with how tough they were. With so many "Children Of The Corn" movies, great to see a wonderful Stephen King movie. ***1/2
