Majorthebys Charming and brutal
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Orla Zuniga It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Floated2 Meeting Evil is a past time crime thriller starring Luke Wilson and Samuel L. Jackson. Throughout the film, Jackson (Ritchie) has fun chewing the scenery as a deranged killer in this otherwise formulaic thriller that provides some campy amusement before running out of gas. John (Luke Wilson) is an unlucky suburban realtor whose life spins out of control after an innocent encounter with a mysterious stranger (Jackson) who wears a fedora. John soon finds himself held hostage during a terroristic spree that later threatens his wife (Leslie Bibb) and children. The film is a decent watch, it won't be too high but it is well entertaining at some areas and the characters provide some great profanity. Though, the film can be somewhat uncertain at points and have several filler moments. The highlight is Samuel L. Jackson's character as he steals the film right from his opening scene. Although somewhat predictable, Meeting Evil is mainly just a onetime watch.
Jules Carter So many layers to this film. It can also be interpreted in many different ways. Did Camus write this? I thought it was this and I thought it was that.....but the movie held my interest no matter which way it went and the surreal and quiet quality of this film kept held a tight grip at all times. Has John, the recently unemployed realtor /father gone to hell? Is Richie, his new out of control acquaintance the devil. Is John being punished for selling the homes of his neighbors who couldn't keep up their payments? Was it just a dream, his subconscious or real life? What does Richie want of John or us? What is the message they want us to take away? Nothing is as it seems. Maybe we are supposed to read into it what we want, as I did, which is what makes this film so great.
garman-productions This movie starts out somewhat interesting with SLJ playing his standard menacing character by rote. But the character played by Luke Wilson makes one mystifying decision after the next, defying logic and common sense. I can never understand why lousy writing such as seen in this movie gets a regular pass by the producers of so many movies. Maybe they don't even actually read the scripts and just are interested in "demographics".And the two detectives are more than bumbling; they are boring too. In an unintentional comedic bit of casting/writing; the two actors playing Luke Wilson' children, a boy and girl, look nothing like the parents and play deadpan throughout their on screen time. Even if they are supposed to be adopted, one would expect some emotion from them but it rarely shows. The alleged "twist" at the end is thrown in there along with the rest of the ridiculous inexplicable plot devices. Thus, a noisy nonsensical waste of time all around.
LeonLouisRicci The reason this Movie seems odd is because it is so ill fitting. Nothing connects here, it is disjointed and frustrating. It is simply all over the place, never knowing where it belongs or where it wants to go. The Audience is forced along with some intriguing set ups and it consistently disappoints. There is some sense of the surreal that can tickle, similar to that experienced in one of Berger's other Novels to Film, Neighbors (1981). But that one was relentlessly disturbing while this Movie is ridiculous and uneven.Nothing is presented that seems remotely believable and at times it is so unclear what is going on that one loses all sense of involvement. The obnoxious Antagonist and the extreme condescension of the Protagonist never appear to be in the same Story at the same time.More misses than hits in this ultimately unpleasant Film and what residue remains after viewing is neither a satisfying Entertainment or a chilling ride to the darker side of the Human Experience. It is just so much muddle and a lot of good ideas gone bad.
