Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Ortiz Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Kira Kent Now, if you see the case for this, it reads comedy 100%, it sounds like it's going to be a whacky fun romp. It is not. This movie is a drama, first and foremost. It does not advertise itself as such, if it had, I probably would never have watched it. But it's not even a good drama. And for a movie titled "Madea's Family reunion", it really doesn't show much of that reunion. It takes up about five minutes of the whole two hour movie. The comedy is not funny. It is forced. Some of it is juvenile. There are distasteful fart jokes in the middle of this dramatic web of family troubles. This movie contains abuse by a man, condoned by the mother of the victim, but then plays beating a child for laughs. This movie contains a woman in fear of a relationship with a man because of a very traumatic past experience her mother put her through, her horrible mother who does not seem to get any punishment in the end. There are many unnecessary characters and subplots, and Madea, the title character, is hardly even in the movie. Then it just decends into some kind of cliched romance. People sing at one point for some reason? It gets a bit muddy. I would not reccommend it.
BRITfan1000 Tyler Perry is a comic genius. This movie is funny, has many good messages, and causes you to think about family and how you treat others. Madea will not sit back and allow her family to be abused. She gets her gun and goes after them. She never kills anyone but she does scare them. Abusive people need to be afraid of something or someone who will stand up to them. This movie is also available in the form of a play. In the play, you will see a lot more of Madea than you do in the movie but you should see both. The Christian message is delivered in a way I have never seen before. If you are not a Christian you should still see the movie. It may still have an affect on you concerning the importance of family.
dmack18-1 Can anyone tell me where I can find the song that plays on the opening menu of the DVD for this movie? I like smooth jazz music and i have not been able to locate this song. If anyone knows, please send email to my screen name dmack18@hotmail.com. put Madea song in the subject line so i will recognize it. I think this was a great movie, it really gets down to what is wrong with families, society, and marriages. Many families have lost touch with their roots. the family structure today has changed drastically over the years. this movie addresses a lot of issues that are important if we as a people are to take back our families and our children.
mswatsoninc Having grown up in the rural south, I am well schooled when it comes to home grown Christmas trees and the run of the mill cedar tree. But, I'm afraid all that working knowledge of sap couldn't have prepared me for "Medea's Family Reunion." Those of you who are diabetic, I would avoid this sickeningly sweet melodrama at all costs. My one hope is the girls hanging from the ceiling during the over the top wedding scene towards the end were well paid for the hours they must have been dangling there. Is that a spoiler? Oh, lord...let me spoil it further....Let's see...we have molestation, family dysfunction, marrying rich, domestic violence, overbearing mothers, and a saccharine soliloquy from Cycelie Tyson to-boot. Oh, and let's not forget the beat the crap out of the child for laughs angle. Honestly, does any one edit films anymore? "Madea's Family Reunion" is like the worst soap opera, after school special, public service announcement, and bad Flip Wilson homage rolled into one. Tyler Perry made the mistake of directing his own script. Of course, one could argue that his sitting down to write it might have been his first offense. If you want to see Tyler Perry do bad drag and think it's funny, I'd say watch this film. If you want to see every emotion in hyperbole acted out on the screen in front of you, and if you still have the wherewithal to endure it, watch this film. If you're looking for anything of substance, outside of a Judge Maybelline cameo, I'd look elsewhere.
