Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Platypuschow There is a certain concept that I love seeing within movies, when a group of people wake up in unfamiliar territory and have to participate in some dangerous activity such as a game.Obviously the SAW franchise comes under this category, the Cube movies and the brilliant Circle (2015) and The Human Race (2013).This is one of those and I was immediatly thrilled upon realising. I just love the idea I find it fascinating, how people react, the different personalities and the ruthlessness of people.House of 9 see's a group of people locked inside a house together unable to escape. Upon awaking the instructions are announced, only one can leave and they'll win five million pounds.Inevitably it doesn't take long before things to fall apart and the way it happens sadly could be better, but is still entertaining. This British made thriller stars Kelly Brook, Dennis Hopper and the last Doctor Who Peter Capaldi.Despite it's flaws I enjoyed this and was very impressed with the movies closing scene. Though it doesn't match the dizzying heights of the other examples of this concept it's still a passable movie. The Good:Great ideaFantastic finaleThe Bad:Questionable executionHoppers accent is horrificThings I Learnt From This Movie:Guns in movies are magic and have unlimited ammoKelly Brook can act without showing boobage
Leviuqse Esquivel Movie watched on 2012, SPOILERS ONE THE ENDINGS REVEALED House of 9 have many similarities with Saw 2 and Cube 1 & 2, minus the technology from cube or the back story from Saw 2. Movie begins with 9 persons waking up in a house, no of them are related or know each other (except for the 2 people who once met for a few minutes). After everyone is awake, a voice from an intercom tells them they all are in a game where the last one alive will win 5 million dollars. Everyone is calm and denies playing the game until 3/4 into the movie, someone kills by "accident" a woman and then the killing spreed begins. At the end (or at least one of them since there is 3) a girl wins, the main doors open and she finds a big bag, with money I presume, and enters another room where 4 more persons with their own big bag are on each corner sitting down protecting the bag.Movie is pretty boring, no back story is told. This movie should had been made into a short film, or TV episode. Very few gore scenes, not such much action until the end, the only cause I gave it a 3 is because the "unexpected" ending, which someone how I predicted but didn't think it actually was going to be. Will not watch again.
jdejong1 I don't know if anything I'm saying here actually counts a a spoiler, but I thought I'd put the warning up in case I slip up. Anywho... I watched this movie because my girlfriend told me it was pretty messed up. While it was disturbing on some levels what people will do to survive in this situation, it's not that messed up if a movie if you've watched anything like Hostel or the Saw series. It does however have a pretty decent plot, and the acting was better than I thought it would be. There's an interesting mixed bag of characters here. You have a hardened cop, a priest, a pothead, and even a token black guy. One thing that bugged me about this movie was the pacing. For the first big chunk of the movie, the tension starts to rise as we wait for the first person to die (which is an inevitability in this type of film). At first I thought it was well done and completely necessary while my friends were complaining about the lack of bloodshed, but then they threw in these random music montages that have no place being there. Like more than once. The music didn't even really fit the mood of the situation the first time, and the second time I caught myself thinking "Really? Another one?" And then the rest of the movie seemed far too rushed, and people were dying at an increasingly rapid rate. If you overlook these things it's a good movie to watch when you're bored or waiting for the next big budget thriller to come out. I wouldn't buy it though. Rent at most.
Jacob Perhaps it has something in common with Saw and Cube, the movies I really found absolutely terrible. This one is different and it's not actually a horror movie. The writing is good, the acting is good, and it's not depressing like Saw and Cube that to me personally were simply unbearable whereas this one keeps you watching because it's simply interesting and that's it. Let me also say that I don't mind extreme violence, when the plot is thrilling, that's why Hostel (that is only the first part) is one of my top favorites in the horror genre. Anyway, if you like being entertained and like interesting movies, check this one out. The ending was nothing you could possibly expect, and before that you'll have enough thrills to appreciate this little thriller.
