Reviews
Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
shawnblackman A teenage daughter decides to stay home Halloween and hand candy out. Dressed up in an angel costume and just finding out she's pregnant she gets a knock on the door. Opening it she finds trick or treaters that won't talk or leave. She soon discovers they are not children at all. They soon start making her evening a nightmare she won't forget because they really want her baby not the candy. After one of them touches her belly the baby starts growing to full term in one night. This one is not too bad but it does kind of mesh Trick R Treat with Children Of The Corn with a little Ghoulies. Robert Patrick is in this for a bit and I don't know if it's just me but he is looking old these days.Lots of jumps and scares in this one but it lacked a story and even originality. It had those did it happen or didn't it scenes. The cinematography in this is stunning. Some of the backdrop shots were amazing now if only they could get a script.
BatesMT This movie is getting a lot of hate and poor scores, and I am failing to see why. What we got was a movie that could have easily been a feature in "Trick r' Treat" or "Tales of Halloween". This is a good thing. The imagery and setting in this film might have been some of the best I have seen. The colors and backgrounds that almost made it look like a painting were just wonderful to look at it, and there were times where it felt almost Rob Zombie like. The designs of the "Hellions" were clearly inspired by Sam from Trick r' Treat and I am 100% okay with that. They were dirty and creepy. Buckethead was my favorite design by far.People are too used too and too spoiled by the jump scare horror movies that are plaguing the industry today, that when they get a movie built around imagery, they are confused. This isn't the kind of movie that is suppose to scare you. This is the kind of creepy atmospheric Halloween movie that you can watch in the fall to really put you in the Halloween spirit. Take what you want when it comes to underlying meaning to the movie, I am not going to touch that. What I saw was a wonderfully crafted Halloween movie, and I am happy with that.I could go on and try to really explain what makes this fun little movie special, but chances are if you have already seen the movie, then what I am trying to convey will fall on deaf ears, but for those who are on the fence about seeing it:See it. But go into it knowing the story is nothing new and the acting is mediocre (not bad though), and you will get some silly scenes that seem a little out of place when compared to the rest of the movie, but the overall tone and feeling are clear. Fans of TrT and Tales of Halloween are sure to love this flick. From the opening scene, this movie is Halloween-tastic!BLOOD FOR BABY.
Tom Fitzgerald Jeez, where to start. OK...Laurie Strode (Halloween) gets knocked up with an H.P. Lovecraft baby and enters a "Trick'r Treat" movie ripoff complete with "Sam" & the "Children of the Corn" who have moved to Salem and are having their strings pulled by, "The Lords of Salem"...I think that about covers it. I actually liked the movie because it did remind me of some of my favorite horror movies, especially "Trick'r Treat", but I think that's not enough to save it from a law suit for copyright infringement. Seriously, the Sam ripoff was just over the top! Are original horror plots that hard to come up with? Must be. Personally I can't wait for the sequel to, "Trick'r Treat". Sam is easily the best Halloween character to come along since Michael Myers & no doubt this is why his twin brother appeared in this film. The music score was excellent, again, because it was a "Trick'r Treat" ripoff. Some might prefer the word inspired to ripoff but I call it like I see it or in this case, hear it. I see some commentators suggest a pro-life agenda, I see where they might get that. I've always thought childbirth something straight out of "Humanoids from the Deep" or "Prometheus" amongst other horror movies and have never quite understood why anyone would want to give birth to a parasite that continues to suck the life out of the mother/father for what must seem an eternity to the parents but that's another topic. One could just as easily see it as a pro-abortion movie so there you go! I gave it 6 out of 10 stars...almost gave it 7 and probably should have, I've seen much worse. I kept waiting for the baby to whip out a tentacle in the last scene of the movie and wave to mommy. That would have got me to 7 or 8 stars, they should have let me write that last scene. If they would have, there would have been money made available for a sequel. Guess we'll just have to wait for, "Trick'r Treat II"...it's coming. Happy Halloween!
Leofwine_draca HELLIONS is another cheapie horror flick with a better DVD cover than the rest of the film put together. This one's shot in Canada and takes the likes of THE STRANGERS and TRICK 'R TREAT as inspiration; it's a low budget rip-off of the previously mentioned films, and consists entirely of a young girl being menaced in her house by creepy kids on Halloween. Now, I'm well aware that every idea under the sun has already been done in the horror genre, so I don't expect originality. However, what I do expect is a bare modicum of quality when it comes to the film-making, but we don't get that here. The whole thing looks as cheap as a found footage movie, and is unwisely shot through a pink filter to give it a surreal look when in fact it looks more like something a couple of students at your local college would produce. It's hard to fault the main actress in this, Chloe Rose, because she certainly puts her all into her performance, so it's a pity it wasn't in a better film. Rose plays a feisty young woman more than able to handle herself against the clichéd horrors she finds herself up against, and is the best thing in the movie. The rest of it is a dog. Oh, and that's an aged Robert Patrick, in case you were wondering.
