good film but with many flaws

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

realistic atmosphere. good performances. interesting story about the relation with past and the ambiguity of present under its pressure. mystery, thriller and a seductive circle of appearances. and the joy to discover, step by step, a Gothic story who turns to new way. its virtue - to remind the rules of a genre who , in too many occasions, is covered by surrogates. and this is the key for admire this decent story about challenges and impressions and fears. about integration in a small community and about the rediscover of the flavor of XIX century literature. sure, its target is precise. sure, it is not exactly a great film. but more than decent. and this is the fact who does it almost a revelation about love and truth. because it reminds old memories about literary and cinematographic styles and about old stories.like a letter from other periods.

Listed as a horror, but it's really not a 'scary movie' per se, it's more drama than anything else with moments of thrilling suspense. The movie takes a while to get going, some people might even consider changing the channel in the first half cause they think it's a little too sappy or sweet but if you do you will miss out on a stellar second half which comes with plentiful of surprises (without spoiling anything) so I recommend sticking it through all the way even if you're struggling. The acting is fine from pretty much all accounts and it's a little different to your typical ghost-movie fares that's for sure.So yeah worth seeing, but yeah horror-fans looking for their daily fans of gore and mayhem might want to look elsewhere.

As a devout fan of the Horror genre, one of the more underrated and overlooked genres in Hollywood, it always makes me very happy to see a celebrity superstar playing in one! I really loved Harrison Ford's "What Lies Beneath" and was pretty disappointed with Kevin Costner's "The New Daughter", and now I had the chance to watch Demi Moore in Half Light. The build up and background story were both great, though seemed unoriginal... I mean, I love those Horror/Thriller films where hallucinations and reality get mixed up and the audience has to keep guessing, but we've seen too many of those by now... then a twist happens, and then another, and by the time the film nears its ending you no longer know what to think! I thought I had everything figured out half way through it, and boy was I wrong! I really like it when films manage to fool me.The acting was great, the cinematography was just right, and the music featured some very nice piano instrumentals along with Celtic tunes. But the screenplay and story were absolutely the best part! The film also has some sad drama and romance, making it more accessible to different people. I honestly enjoyed every minute! All in all? The film might no be perfect, I personally would have liked it more had it had less drama and more mystery/horror/thriller motives, but as it is it's a great film, not too scary but scary enough, and very smart! I'd highly recommend it, especially to couples!

I saw this movie just because of Demi Moore. She is a good actress and i have loved her work over the years. I got the chance to see this on a satellite channel. And from start to finish everything about the movie was predictable. The screenplay miserably fails to catch viewers interest. Tragedy hits a family and they go somewhere to recover mentally and strange things begins to happen. Here the center of the story is Moore. so nothing new with the story and thousand times repeated camera tricks in other Hollywood movies makes it a pain to watch. The way story progresses is so predictable that no one would dare to finish it. I love Demi Moore but sorry honey we cannot watch repeated formulas of movie script. In a nutshell, waste of time. Don't buy it... just borrow.
