Reviews
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Aspen Orson There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.
trashgang What a flow those flicks have in the Guinea Pig franchise. This one is purely made for the fun of it but for me it wasn't funny at all. If you watch the end credits then you can see that they really had a big time making this and I must say that the effects really looked great and are almost the real thing but the story itself was a bit terrible. One man is so depressed and bored that he cuts himself with a razor. Thinking by slashing his wrist he is going to die suddenly he notices that he doesn't feel any pain at all and the bleeding do stops. Next try, a pencil being pulled through his arm and still no pain. Time for revenge. He asks a friend of him to come over who is now with his ex girlfriend. Once the friend comes over to the apartment the gore comes in. It's harakiri time and it's all well done but at the end of the day it's a big farce for me. The funny moments added just didn't work out for me. It do contains some gory moments and a tittie shot but overall I found it a bit lame.Gore 2/5 Nudity 0,5/5 Effects 4/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0,5/5
attackreflex You can't sit back and bash this movie like most people do, its actually very good! As we all know Za Ginipiggu, is a very brutal film series. After Flowers of flesh and blood and all the controversy (funny how that was the one that did it and not Devil's experiment lol) ANYWAYS! This is the comic relief of the series, it has the gore and at first you honestly don't know whats going on. But immediately you connect with him being a bored guy who just got out of school and sees how the world works. He as the movie title suggests finds out a secret about himself. Its dark and hilarious as well with some silly humor, and not funny because its bad or something, its funny because thats how it was made to be. The beginning dark and goes into a roller coaster of fun. After Devil's experiment and Flowers of flesh and blood, this is definitely a good breather and lightens the mood before continuing onto the the next movie of brutality. My suggestion would be watch it AFTER the first two, you'll enjoy it more.
DVD_Connoisseur "He Never Dies" is a low-point of the "Guinea Pig" series. I'm a fan of light-hearted horror when it's done right ("Shaun of the Dead" and the blacker than black "The Evil Dead", "Braindead" and "Re-Animator" are examples of excellent humorous horror films) but this Japanese production failed to tickle my funny bone. The production values are the same as other "Guinea Pig" films but the plot is weak and the delivery wooden. The pay-off involving an immortal geek mutilating himself in-front of a cowering love-rival wearing an Elvis mask is just bizarre.A small observation I made during viewing this film was that it seems to have borrowed music from Rick Wakeman's "The Burning" soundtrack for one sequence. This is one for completists only. Twenty years ago, these films were hard-hitting and covering new ground for a generation of gore-hounds craving something different. Now, installments like "He Never Dies" just look a little silly. Not a patch on the multi-coloured delights of "Mermaid in the Manhole." 4 out of 10.
mr_piles what a pile of absolute shite... after watchin guinea 2 (haven't seen 1 yet, but it's coming), i can't believe that this is attached in any way to the second one...the 2nd was, in certain respects, something to be watched... probably give it a 4-5 rating... but this, instead of a development is not only a step backwards, but also indeed a cheapening catalyst for the guinea pig 2... it has a demeaning effect upon the 2nd, and serves no purpose but to highlight extremely bad acting (which i can handle if there are other redeeming facets to a film), extremely bad direction, and a truly pathetic attempt to shock anyone over 12...this is indeed true bullshit...
