Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Konterr Brilliant and touching
SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Raul Faust Well, I took around a year to finally watch this film, since the synopsis never really engaged me; more precisely, last week I gave it a chance and saw it in a rainy afternoon. "Ghost Town" is a movie that takes long time to develop something; the first hour of length is simply full of uninteresting conversations that lead almost nowhere. Pincus, the main character, is a grumpy dentist whose life is almost a complete loss, until he, unintentionally, or maybe even against his will, acquires the ability of seeing dead people-- no, we're not talking about Shyamalan's classic. From that point on, Pincus gets in some unpleasant situations, mainly created by Frank, the deceased husband of a beautiful girl named Gwen. After falling in love with her, his life never feels the same; not that he stops being an unsympathetic person, but he finds something interesting to do about his life. There isn't much else that I can say about it, due that "Ghost Town" wasn't any remarkable to me. In my opinion, the story is just too weak to develop much feelings in the spectator, but it's at least fresh and has a beautiful ending. See it yourself (or don't).
namashi_1 'Ghost Town' is an interesting concept, that gets it right, but Fine Performances lead this Supernatural Comedy!'Ghost Town' Synopsis: Bertram Pincus is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts.'Ghost Town' has the ability to make its viewer smile, and thats no mean achievement. Its a sweet & simple film, that doesn't tax your brain, but ends up touching the core of your heart. The only problem was in its slow-pace, which needed some serious persuasion. David Koepp & John Kamps's Screenplay is mostly right. Koepp's Direction, on the other-hand, is subtle. Cinematography, Editing & Art Design, are accurate.Performance-Wise: Ricky Gervais, Téa Leoni & Greg Kinnear lead the narrative with fine performances. Gervais is delightfully wonderful, Leoni is masterfully restrained & Kinnear is simply excellent. On the whole, 'Ghost Town' has fine acting & fine writing working to its advantage.
Harry Paulson I can't understand how I missed it. Written and directed by David Koepp, the man who wrote "Apartment Zero" and "Death Becomes Her" with Martin Donovan, a personal hero of mine. Not to mention some of the biggest moneymakers of the last two decades. "Ghost Town" strives for something else, it pinpoints the goodness hidden in the heart of someone who, perhaps, never knew was there. A comedy of personal discovery no less. I was moved and delighted. Ricky Gervais goes through it, stumbling over himself with an innocence that is as real as it is mysterious. I connected with him half way through and it took me by surprise. I was loving a character that at the beginning I thought was funny but despicable. That for me means I've learned something. Thank you.
SnoopyStyle Frank (Greg Kinnear) barely escapes from getting crushed by a falling AC unit only to be run over by a bus. Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a reclusive dentist in NYC. He has a routine colonoscopy under general anesthesia, and when he wakes up, he finds that he can see dead people. Gwen (Téa Leoni) is Frank's widow and Pincus' neighbor. She is about to remarry a Richard (Billy Campbell), and Frank wants Pincus to stop it.This is a fairly low energy comedy especially with Kristen Wiig. She's got this stuttering halting timing. Their little exchange is a bit of fun. After that, the comedy is oddly uncomfortable. Frank actually cheated on Gwen. Pincus is a people hating jerk. And Gwen doesn't like Pincus. None of them have any chemistry. No matter how hard they try to make Pincus human, I can't see Gwen with him. Gwen falling for Pincus is just a Hollywood fiction. Some of the ghosts are kinda funny. The naked one has some especially funny moments. The trio's split does make it better. At least, it's logical. Only after the trio split up does Pincus get down to the business of actual personal growth. The last 30 minutes is where the movie gets right. The lesson learned is truly touching. Only then does the trio make sense.
