this film is junk i love comedy films with dead pan humor & tongue & cheek, satire etc but this film tried way hard to throw comedy in viewers face it just never worked, the cast was horrible & had no chemistry i remember Zooye Deschanel & Famke Jansen these 2 women are only best part about this trashy flick that's it & those stupid perverted kids were so annoying.who wrote the dialogues specially the basement scene it was so lame & cringe full, the whole film drags on boring & desperate sad moments trying hard to gain audiences sympathy & keep on failing, the director inserts some slapstick moments but it never makes you laugh.death at a funeral 2007 & its American remake in 2010 are better then this any-day .same concept the father dies & family fights at the funeral but its done better in death at a funeral.this film is called Eulogy well the makers should give one to the audience for releasing this garbage because i expect one i actually bought the disc & wasted my time & money on this ,beware people do not fall for the cool poster & all those paid positive reviews this film sucks,i saw this few years back & boy it was horrible as a Asian i enjoy western comedies a lot but this one was not my cup of tea.sorry my rating is 3/10.skipp early 2000s had great films in comedy but for 2004 this was the worst.

I'm usually a fan of dramedies that involve family troubles and the hardships that come with loving your parents and siblings but also being annoyed to no living end with them but "Eulogy" was just so bland and flavorless. The script for the film is just weak and sparsely sprinkled with unfunny jokes. They are so unfunny that I found myself getting into an internal debate and question whether what I saw was intended to be funny or was just something spat out on to the script page. Then you have one-dimensional characters that were written without anything neither interesting about them nor deep enough to be relatable and likable. Finally, you have a cast who really, really looks like they just don't give a flying flip about what they are making. It really made for a film that was just one long experiment in boredom and was incredibly tedious. It's a shame because there's decent actors in it and it might have been better if more care was taken with the entire product.

Dysfunctional families dealing with the loss of a member and uncovering their skeletons in the closet while burying the deceased isn't news on film. There's comedies about it, drama as well and the mix of both. "Eulogy" tries the latter resulting in something that is eternally confusing, loudly funny in its first minutes then the laughs are fading away the more its conclusion approaches. The patriarch (Rip Torn) has died and now his sons (Hank Azaria, Ray Romano and others), his suicidal wife (Piper Laurie) and other members of the family have a lot of things to do, including dealing with each other in the worst possible way since they can't bear one another. The only one with some decency is the granddaughter (Zooey Deschanel) chosen to deliver the eulogy on the grandfather's funeral, amazingly waited because later there'll be the reading of the old man's testament. Writer and director Michael Clancy's proposition is to deliver the highest amount of unbelievable yet sometimes hilarious situations ever presented on screen. Women's fight; the horny pre-adolescents sons of Azaria making fun of the family; fine, they're great provider of laughs but other "jokes" like the suicide attempts of the matriarch doesn't cause any effect on the viewer. And it's a pity that there isn't enough space to treat serious subject in a serious manner, just a little.Good film but a small, almost insignificant work for a great cast in average roles. Higher note than the one I'm giving is a mere exaggeration, it's not that brilliant. It's just fun at certain parts. 6/10

I am all for a sweet, funny, touching independent film about a band of dysfunctional, quirky characters interacting but I felt that Eulogy fell flat, was uninspiring, was over the top and worst of all, was just not believable.Someone dies. The whole family comes together as a result. Interactions and Hilarity and Drama ensue and the audience is supposed to be engrossed. This is nothing new and yet still had potential to be something great if the writing and acting and all the elements came together but they didn't and as a result, this movie was average at best.If someone told me that there was going to be a sequel about this family and their hijinks, I would not watch b/c I don't care and THAT is the problem. I didn't find the characters endearing or likable at all except maybe Katie played by Zooey Deschanel who was the token normal one of the bunch. In fact, at times it seemed as though she was in a different movie since she was so laid back and sane and the characters around her were so over the top and cartoonish. I just didn't find the family interaction or characters believable - it's like each character was his or her own caricature of what a true character should be only not.I wanted to get into this family and this movie. I wanted to care about these characters. I wanted to go on the journey with these characters as they rehashed the past and dealt with repressed demons BUT as I said above, I just didn't care one iota about them and I found the whole dynamic very manufactured. I was very aware at all times that these were actors trying to create a dynamic of a dysfunctional family. It just didn't work for me at all.4/10 since there were some funny moments albeit over the top just like the characters and the dialogue in this movie.Oh and be ready for some cheap jokes at lesbians' expense because apparently the movie is that sophisticated and smart (*snerk*) - many that can be see as offensive including the 10 year old mentality that girl + girl couple = hot lesbian action. Yes, it's that stupid.
