SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Mabel Munoz Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
trublu215 Cohen and Tate is a fun, gritty and, at times, shockingly violent. This is a film that allows Eric Red to take an age old (even in 1988) story and make it into a thoroughly fresh film even by today's standards. Telling the story of two hit men tasked with kidnapping and delivering a nine year old boy to the mob, Eric Red does a superior job in telling the story and having enough guts to balance its grim plot with dark humor. Roy Scheider delivers a very scene chewing performance as Cohen, a mild mannered hit-man who is more old school than new. Approaching sixty years old and wearing a hearing aid, he is pit with Tate, a psychotic and violent hit-man that is more about bloodlust than technique. Baldwin is very good in this film, really running with his character and ends up delivering a career best performance. It is really mind boggling that Eric Red hasn't done anything really noteworthy considering the obvious talent he has behind the camera. In conclusion, Cohen and Tate is an extremely suspenseful, thrilling and thoroughly engrossing crime film with a great pair of lead performances. This stands as the definitive hidden gem in the indie world and definitely worth watching. I highly recommend this film.
Sherparsa this movie has relatively well thought of action and thrill ...acting is performed reasonably good too ...all characters are more or less correctly rendered ...the script is also rightly done but for one thing that kills all the required logic in order to make it flawless: if the mob in Houston is so cruel to send two hit men to kill the little boy's parents only because they know some important secret the mob doesn't want to be revealed, then why not kill the kid right there along with his parents just as well, instead of taking him all the way to Houston to see if he knows their secret too, and if so, then kill him in Houston?OK, we know some mobs are so family-oriented they do care for certain emotional values but they do so for their own kids only and not those of other people's!
dfuge1972 Why hasn't Cohen And Tate come out on DVD? This film was made in 1988 and not only hasn't it been released on DVD, it's only been on British TV twice and twice in the same night only on ITV2 about four years ago. It took a British TV channel long enough to finally show it and Sky TV have never shown it on any movie channels out of all people. At least we can buy it on DVD and it's not even coming out on DVD.If we ask the distributors they will say it might not sell because hardly anyone has asked about it. That's because most people twenty-one years old and under haven't had the chance to see it to make an opinion.I bet if Cohen And Tate was made as a re-make that would be quick enough to come out on DVD when a lot of us are more interested in the original. I hope Cohen And Tate doesn't have a re-make because how many more re-makes are we getting? Damn, The Taking Of Pelham One, Two, Three has just been re-made and I suspected that a couple of years ago.
mikestruffles This is one of the best films of it kind. It's gritty and suspenseful, with one unexpected twist after another. The low budget adds to the gritty feel. Most of the movie takes place in a moving car--very claustrophobic feel. Harley Cross holds his own acting-wise against Scheider and Baldwin, despite being saddled with a heavy Texas accent. And does anyone know if he did his own stunts? The traffic dodging scenes looks like him rather than a stand-in. Movie wasn't released in NYC to my knowledge--I found it at a rental place a few years ago. Hoping this gets a DVD release soon. I'd love to hear the background stories about how scenes were filmed.
