Reviews
Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Orla Zuniga It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
DamianThorn Chuck Norris...Chuck Norris. Thus ends my review...just kidding. In all seriousness I'll keep going but really, knowing Norris is in this should be enough of a selling point for anyone. This is some of his earliest work and by far some of his best. When a drug bust goes south, a mob war erupts and at the center of it all is an innocent girl who just happens to have the misfortune of being a mob bosses daughter. Enter Chuck Norris as a tough, gritty cop who not only wants to bring down the scum that is the mafia but also wants to protect the mobsters daughter from hit men who've already murdered her whole family. A simple enough story line but one that is played out so well you can't help but be captivated from start to finish. The situation worsens when Norris discovers that a burnt out cop in his squad accidentally killed a teenage boy and planted a gun on the body to cover up his crime. All of this leaves Norris to face insurmountable odds taking on the mob alone as his fellow cops abandon him as a traitor. Will that stop Chuck? The iceberg that sunk the Titanic couldn't stop Chuck...sorry, I can't help it. How many stars can be the core of a million jokes and yet still be so cool that he could freeze ice cream in the Mojave desert...see, I did it again. To put it simply, In this movie Chuck Norris does what he does best, he kicks ass. More importantly though, being as this is some of his finest work you can really see his acting talent. You can see that's he's much more than just another action star but that he's also a very capable actor. The supporting cast all around is excellent as well, especially Dennis Farina. Little tidbit there, Farina was in fact a cop in Chicago for eighteen years in real life. Just thought I'd toss that in for those who might not know. One film this movie could best be compared to is Raw Deal from 1986 or perhaps The French Connection from 1971. Code of Silence has that same rough gritty filming style with actors who play their roles so well it's astonishing. Everything from the vehicles used on set to the filming locations were brilliantly chosen and the whole look and feel of the movie just perfect. If your an action movie fan, put down the modern crap and pick this one up. You'll love it and if you don't already love Chuck Norris you will after watching this, that's a promise.
AaronCapenBanner Andrew Davis directs this Chicago-based action film that stars Chuck Norris as police officer Eddie Cusack, who is a tough cop determined to take down two rival and warring drug gangs that are plaguing the city. Trouble is, Eddie has made himself an outcast in the department by testifying against an aging officer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager, and Eddie doesn't think he should get away with it. Despite this, Eddie goes forth with his duties, which also has him using the department's newest weapon: a robotic crime-fighting vehicle called "The Prowler". Reasonably good film has Chuck in fine form, with efficient direction, though the plot itself is routine. Funny scene involving two crooks trying to hold up a restaurant filled with cops!
Maziun Interesting thing - this was supposed to be a Clint Eastwood movie , but he decided to do "Pale rider" instead. It's funny , because the story here feels a little bit like western . "COS" has got obviously more story than average Chuck movie . The corrupt cops angle is nothing new or particularly deep , but works well enough. It's hard to call this story unpredictable and the ending conclusion is rather unfitting to the rest of the movie , but doesn't destroy it. There is one very funny scene involving two unlucky robbers that will make you laugh hard. There are some silly moments here and there , but overall this movie manages to be serious and have decent dialogues .Chuck is his usual self here , but somewhat less wooden . Henry Silva ("Nico : Above the law") is effective enough as the mob boss. The rest of the cast involving known faces like Ron Dean and Dennis Farina is also very OK.The action is rather unspectacular , although it's well placed and enjoyable. The big shootout at the end (Chuck versus mafia) is both silly and kinda creative. Director Andrew Davis ("The Fugitive" , "Under siege" and "Nico : Above the law") keeps the movie at nice pace. Veteran action movie composer David Michael Frank gives a nice funky score. Chicago does look really nice in this movie.I give it 5/10. Not really an underrated movie , but decent enough to watch it if it's on TV and you have nothing to do. It lacks that certain something that would make it stand out from many movies of the genre. Compared to almost every other movie Norris made this is however a freaking masterpiece. Along with "Delta force" and "The Lone wolf McQuade" his best work.
namashi_1 Chuck Norris is a vintage legend. Love him, hate him, it just doesn't matter. He's out there & he's done his stuff. I ain't a Chuck Norris fan, but I surely respect the guy for being so damn sincere in what he does. And 'Code of Silence', is surely amongst his best works.'Code of Silence' Synopsis: A Chicago cop is caught in a middle of a gang war while his own comrades shun him because he wants to take an irresponsible cop down.'Code of Silence' is an entertaining action-flick, that will truly work for those in love with vintage stuff. Michael Butler, Dennis Shryack & Mike Gray's Screenplay is Entertaining. The Action-Sequences are arresting & leave an impact. Andrew Davis's Direction is proper. Cinematography, Editing & Art Design, are fair. Performance-Wise: Chuck Norris is pretty cool in here. He's kicking-butt & he's loving it. A Special Mention for Henry Silva, who plays the twisted villain remarkably. Silva is an under-rated actor! On the whole, 'Code of Silence' will work for those who love vintage action-flicks. I enjoyed myself.
