What a beautiful movie!

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Not much good I can say this film. Bad acting, make-up, transitions. I just need to find someone to knock me over the head for wasting an hour and 18 minutes on this terrible film.

Rating is a B for a B movie. 8 stars. 10 stars for balance.I didn't like the very beginning with the drag racing and crashing into the river, and the very end when they drag them out of the water. It just seemed to start from nowhere. The very end was ok as well. It wrapped up the story. What was great was when Mary walked out of the river, as a ghost. That was great. We next see her playing a church organ and then heading off for a job in Utah as a church organist. We have no other background on her, her family or friends, other than she studied organ music in college. She regards the job in the church only as a job, no connection to religion. This is fine. It gives a sense of mystery about this woman. All the performers did fine. Candace Hilligoss as Mary was perfect for the part. The neighbor also did a fine job. The Ghoul man was also great. This is not a zombie movie. It's a ghost story. It's eerie. The story is not perfect. It's been done on Twilight Zone and others have mentioned other earlier shows. But as a piece of work it evokes eerie. I felt sorry for this woman. Especially when she when she was in the doctor's office, the second time, losing her mind, when the doctor turns around and it's the ghoul man. Very sad. She didn't even know she was already dead. Some questioned what does the abandoned Bathhouse/Dancehall/Carnival have to do with her death? Well, I guess we must afford some artistic license to the filmmakers. This is my 2nd viewing. I was more impressed this time. I recommend this movie, along with the following:
White Zombie 1932, Bela Lugosi's best movie, check out those zombies in the mill. Last Man on Earth, 1964 with Vincent Price - full on dread. Night of the Living Dead 1968. Messiah of Evil 1972. Footprints on the Moon 1975.

This is one strange little weird film, which balances between the brilliant and the awful. Though this is listed as a Horror flick it's more like a Dark Fantasy as there's no real horror here.I really liked the story. A girl, Mary (Hilligoss), involved in a fatal drag race is the sole survivor of the accident where the car she's travelling in crashes off a bridge... only she emerges from the river, a long time after the accident. After her recovery, she leaves the town to take up a new job as a church organist. However, there's a strange force lurking in her new home and it's quite shortly after she begins to believe she was surely drawn there... for some dark reason. What makes this a great movie is the direction. Though the majority of the film is shot in a fairly standard style, it's when the apparitions start to appear where it starts to get interesting. Herk Harvey does a good job of creating an eerie atmosphere. His style had me reminiscing about Nosferatu and The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari. Even the way that the spirits move and act is very striking. They never speak and they actually move in a similar fashion to actors in the old silent movies. This has the element of adding a strangeness to the scene and it works well. Then there's the story. I particularly liked the scene where Mary walks around the abandoned carnival. There's one section where she looks at and stands in front of a billboard... the woman on the add bears a striking resemblance to Mary. This adds to the strange atmosphere, which makes the film stronger. The only real drawback is the lead actress Candace Hilligoss who is so over the top hammy she quite nearly kills the film by herself. This type of acting works brilliantly for the spirits and adds to the power of the movie. However, in reality, where everybody else is normal this appears very poor. It's a shame that she's in the majority of the film. Had this role been given to a finer actress or she had been directed better this movie would have been so much improved. If you've not seen this one yet then I'd recommend you check it out. I'd also implore you to check out Nosferatu and The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari also. If you liked this film you would love them.

The tagline reads :"She Escaped Death. Now It Wants Her Back!" Well, as far as I am concerned, "it" can have her. Cult classic or not, this was a really bad movie. It was like a poorly made Twilight Zone .. one of the ones that would never be shown even on those three day holiday marathons where they show all but the really crummy episodes. The "heroine" is a lump. She would have been the prompter at her High School Drama Club productions because she was so totally inept as an actress. Production values ? Director ? Budget for the film ? All seem to be missing. When the car goes off of the bridge, the girls scream before they are doing anything other than driving straight forward. The faces appearing here and there ? I have no clue even after watching the film twice. If you are a fan of bad movies. Go for it. Otherwise.. ummm .. no! OK I have to edit my review. I have read the others and an awful lot of them insist this is a masterpiece so I must ... heartily disagree. It's a mess.
