Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
KaJin After the intro with Amano and Yukari on Earth, with Van's arrival the series seems definitely kind of suspicious, and even after the first four episodes you don't get everything because all is mixed up with almost ordinary but still weird love-confusion of Hitomi. But the series has got 26 episodes. After the short uncommon introduction you can't get your eyes off it because the whole idea slowly becomes clear with the characters evolving and telling their tale. Every character, at first presented powerful and heroic, surprises with emotional weaknesses almost too well known, with their biographies told a bit further in every single episode. Therefore even the 'bad guys' soon turn out to be not just objects to fight against, but complex characters not just to be hated. Additionally, the soundtrack is just awesome, thanks to Yoko Kanno.Gaia is more than just a fictional world just to show some Guymelefs, it binds dreams and tragic with the sense of destiny and how to change (or not?) the fates of destined friendships. Those of you who've watched Neon Genesis Evangelion while still having a romantic understanding of certain things may experience an even more inspiring anime.
AndyWarth "The Vision of Escaflowne" is by far, one of the best anime series I've ever seen, and in my heart I still feel the many, many emotions it awoke on me.Kanzaki Hitomi is a cheerful and athletic girl who is about to confess his love for his "sempai" - word used in japan to describe someone superior - Amano, Captain of the race team. But that day she receives visions about a young man who's preparing to fight a dragon in order to become king.It is easy to see where this goes: the usual story about a girl sent to another world. However Escaflowne is far better than what someone would expect. And this superiority lay upon it's characters.Van Fanel, the young prince, is a guy with a troubled fate, who in order to become king must kill an earth dragon, a hunt rite that his elder brother failed to accomplish.Allen Schezzar is a Caeli Knight of Asturia, a powerful country, who values chivalry and honor, even when he's labeled as a traitor for his own country...Folken, a mysterious and cold strategist of Zaibach a nation determined to conquer other countries, has a dark and mysterious past, but his actions are guided but what he believes is best for others Dilandau Albatou, is a twisted general of Zaibach, consumed by madness and blood lust...I could go on, the series is full of great characters, even if they just walk by.And the feeling I got while watching it, was that of an infinite sadness, maybe because of the story, too real and sincere about human nature, or maybe because of Yoko Kanno's magical and haunting soundtrack. But I know it was mainly because I knew there were only 26 episodes, and the series was bound to end too soon.A must see, it was Beautiful, tears rolled down my face...
SonicStuart The very first time I saw this show was when I was watching the start of episodes of the 2nd Season of Digimon: Digital Monsters and it was during break when I saw an ad for this show, so I decided to take a peek. Hitomi Kanzaki is a typical high school girl, with typical problems, but when a vision of a young man battling a dragon becomes a reality, her life changes forever. Drawn into a strange vortex with the swordsman, Van, Hitomi is thrust into the strange world of Gaea. Van must learn to master the suit of armor, Escaflowne, before he and Hitomi are crushed by the ambitions of the Empire of Zaibach. Van and Hitomi will encounter both allies and enemies in an effort to unlock the secrets within Escaflowne, and Hitomi's heart, stirred by love and adventure, will, at times ache with sorrow. But why was she sent to this world? Her journey has just begun! I saw it and it was very cool! It had a lot of good animation and plots. It also had lots of action, drama and thrills! I was really upset when Fox Kids took the show off the air! I really thought it should of had some more seasons. But I think it was probably Power Rangers fault! Because Power Rangers has kicked mostly every good show on Fox Kids. But at least they still had some other good shows on Fox Kids at the time. Like Digimon, Action Man, Spider-Man: Unlimited, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, NASCAR Racers and Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot.User Rating: 10/10BOTTOM LINE: FANTASTIC!
CharagonIGN You're going to have to watch this series from beginning to end at least twice.Once to just marvel at the story being unfolded in front of you. Between the conflicts of love and war you can't miss a single episode. You can get drawn into the world and loose yourself in the land of Gaia. Conflicts about what's right and wrong make you think while twisting emotions make you feel. You need to watch it a second time because there is so much foreshadowing in the series you can't catch it all first time around. You need to watch again so you can say `hey, that makes sense now'. It's like watching a totally different show. To sum it up, Escaflowne is probably one of the most interesting animes out there. It's just a wonderful story with fantastic characters in a world that makes your imagination soar. If you are looking for Mech Fights or Romance you'll find it here. Watch it with your significant other since they are more then likely interested in one or the other.
