    Infamousta brilliant actors, brilliant editing
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
TheMightyHodgeheg I loved this show and I am so gutted that it didn't get to finish that series, let alone get a whole other one!I found it totally gripping and I loved all of the characters. Minnie Driver was so funny and fierce, I thought she was incredible, she usually plays such wholesome characters and this was a far cry from her usual style. Eddie Izzard does well in it too, it is good to see him play someone so suave and less of a clown and actually Minnie out does him when it comes to the comic parts! I also loved their son Cael, played by the superbly talented and rather gorgeous Noel Fisher. I felt that the show had a good pace and was not only dramatic but hilarious and it was just getting exciting when it was sadly cut short because of the writers strike. I am still hoping for it to be picked up again but I am guessing everyone will have aged too much by now for it to have started from where it left off! Such a shame. Is it realistic? Not particularly, but it's wildly entertaining and satisfying to watch and keeps you hanging on for more. I thought it was a great concept and really creative, especially for an American show (must be all the British influence!)A couple of points that were mentioned in other reviews. First of all the accents. Well I don't know if you've heard many travellers speak of late (Irish or Romany) but they definitely have a rich, lilting and sometimes seemingly garbled way of talking (they use a lot of slang) so I felt that their accents were authentic enough. Also they are con artists who use a range of accents and personas to get what they want so it's perfectly realistic that there accents were adaptable and slipped in and out of their native and more regional accents as this is not uncommon.Secondly the cross dressing aspect of the little boy. Well one way that this quirk could be included is so that the boy can (and does) dress as both a boy and girl which could be used in a con or help them to further disguise themselves. Secondly, in case you hadn't noticed Eddie Izzard is a transvestite/cross dresser. He may well have wanted it to be included to educate people, to help to normalise it so it's not something that people are so afraid of. There is nothing wrong with trying to educate people and not every little part of a TV character needs to be scrutinised in order for it to work. Sometimes people cross dress. It is comfort to them or brings them pleasure and there is nothing wrong with it or further investigation needed. The person who said the boys wall drawings were pointless, well in case you didn't notice he was actually documenting everything that they had been through. It was partly therapeutic and just plain fun for him which is explains the why and in terms of plot development far from being pointless it was actually a form of evidence which could potentially be used against them if and when they get caught! It's actually quite clever this show, perhaps a bit much for some.
twothousandoperas This show is so good. I don't care that much about its commentary on wealth and the "American Dream" - it's not that clever. But the plot itself is top notch entertainment! This family gets into situations so intense that you are literally on the edge of your seat waiting to find out how they will get out of this one - and the payoff is always extremely satisfying. It is about a family who are walking on VERY thin ice, and it is cracking all around them, but they keep on floating. Not to mention that the performances were good from every cast member (Minnie's son is a bit annoying, but we forgive him). I am tremendously upset that this show got cut off in the middle of the second season - I am still hoping that someone will come to their senses..
D_Burke "The Riches", having been off the air for nearly four years as of this date this review is being written, is seen as many things now: a short-lived series, a canceled drama, a cable show not given the exposure it deserved, or a casualty of the Writer's Strike in 2007. However, to me, one word sums up the entire show: brilliant. With the critical and commercial success of such hour-long AMC dramas like "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", and "The Walking Dead", it's amazing to me that "The Riches" got the ax just before the aforementioned ground-breaking shows developed a fan base. It deserves a second chance, and I hope it gets it before its too late.Like the aforementioned shows, "The Riches" gets you hooked, and makes it nearly impossible to stop watching. If you see "The Riches" on DVD, you can't help but skip to the next episode after the credits roll on one episode. I personally went through the whole series in just three days. The final episode was the most disappointing only because it left the series on the most inconclusive note of perhaps any TV show in history.Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver are superb in their roles as Wayne and Dahlia Malloy, two married drifters and con-artists who, along with their three children, distance themselves from their cult of other people who could be considered American gypsies.A traffic blow out with one of the more belligerent traveling members results in an automobile accident, which incidentally costs the lives of Doug and Serena Rich. The Malloys only find out about them from swiping their identity, and finding that the Riches were about to move into an affluent, gated community in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rather than report their deaths to the police, Wayne makes the dubious decision for the family to put down roots and pose as the Riches. What they're doing is fraudulent and morally wrong, but somehow you keep rooting for this family. The thrill of the show is seeing how the family pulls off this identity despite many obstacles such as friends of the real Riches who want to visit, and Wayne having no legal expertise whatsoever, even though Doug Rich is a lawyer at a prestigious law firm. You know what the Malloys are doing is wrong, and the show successfully created a moral dilemma within itself. The Malloys, as the Riches, are literally living a lie, and it's also fascinating how the three children react to it in their own way. The conflict of the Malloys trying to dig their way out of the deep pit of lies they created for themselves also presents a great multi-layered story arc. Even if you want to see Wayne pay for the lies he has told, you still want to see how he manages to survive while he is still in the clear. It makes for a great series, and its surprising the show didn't last, despite an auspicious first season with good ratings for a cable show, and an Emmy nomination for Minnie Driver in her role. Also, considering the show aired on FX, the home of other popular shows such as "The Shield" and "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", it's surprising FX did not give it another chance. If FX did not want it, I'm sure AMC could take the series and run with it.I have seen all 20 episodes, and I still want to know how it ends. That's how good it is.
Jordan Allen I heard that the show was canceled, and I didn't watch it. I had heard a little about it, but I wasn't interested enough to watch it. I let the rumors that I had heard prevent me from watching the show. I usually don't listen to critics when movies come out, or they talk about a show. I did with this show - and I have no idea why I listened to any of them! I had the opportunity of watching the whole series and I'm nearly finished with the first season. I've been very impressed with the show, and have full intention of taking my time with the last season. It's sad to know that the movie was canned and all subsequent seasons were never planned.
