TwentyWasHere I lived in the 80s, was the target audience of the show at the time, but never understood the hype that came long after the show was canceled.Let's face it Miami Vice was just another bad police procedural of the 80s with a ton of soap elements to compete against other programs at the same slot. Shallow characters, weak plot, bad actors. What it had going initially for it was over the top 80s fashion and an decent soundtrack. That's basically it. A gimmick that got old quickly.It was marketed a lot initially, way more than any other TV show at the time. Especially hyping Michael Mann who wasn't really involved with the show to begin with except for the pilot for which he wrote the script. He never directed a single episode or actually ran the show.The "kicker" on this run-of-the-mill police procedural was the drug trade. That set it apart from many other shows. It was new, it felt fresh. But it was not enough to carry the show.They changed the show a lot between season 2 and season 3 as people already got bored of its novelty early during the second season and people moved on to other programs. But they couldn't sustain the show as there was not enough substance to begin with. Still they managed to carry it to syndication before it was canceled after five seasons.In the late 90s when one of the many 80s revivals came up, suddenly Miami Vice was considered a cult TV show of the 80s. It never was. People lived in 80s nostalgia but did not remember how bad this show was as they only watched a couple of episodes to begin with. No one really watched it regularly after the first season anymore. What stuck was the fashion, the cars and the soundtrack. But no one remembered the actual show. The show didn't age well. Today you see a bad cop procedural with the worst of 80s fashion and an annoyingly repetitive generic 80s soundtrack. The acting is terrible, the plot basically non existent and the dialogue is cringe worthy. But there is a lot of good action, right? No, there never was. The budget of the show was spent to make it look pretty and on marketing.Miami Vice was always a cop show that was beautiful photographed for the times. There is nothing more the see here. And even the cinematography looks dated today. And it doesn't portrait the 80s. It portraits an 80s MTV imagination of the 80s. I think they initially called it "MTV Cops" during development before it became "Gold Coast" and finally "Miami Vice".If you want to see some action/cop show of the 80s there are better ones out there that aged way better. If you still insist on watching it, well go for the 1st season, but don't look for anything beyond it.I give the show 3 out of 10 for it's visual appeal at the time it was first broadcast. But there is nothing more to see here. The show is the 80s shoulder pads of TV. Better pass on it..

Yiannis-T this is the best TV series of all time.it should be ranked 10/10.Probably it's because people who are giving rates here hasn't seen it when it was originally aired.What can i tell about Miami Vice.The style was absolute 80's style,the cars were super,the action was superb,the girls were beautiful,the music was definitely 80's.Action,Love stories,car chases,fights,partnerships,amazing places!What else would you want?The detectives of Miami Vice police department were fighting against smugglers,drug dealers,thugs and more and they were successful.Every episode it's different and takes you to the originality of the 80's era.It's nothing like the today's shows.This is the original,this is the best and all the actors were great!If someone hadn't seen it should watch it and won't be disappointed.Miami Vice made a mark to the TV series!

michaelrustage Miami Vice was a one of a kind show. Famous for it's fashion, music & glamour, it was a cop show like no other. Don Johnson & Philip Michael Thomas fitted the roles well & had a good supporting cast. Seasons 1 & 2 were great. Very fresh & very original. Season 3 however had a slightly different feel to it. The Daytona was replaced by the Testerossa which I personally didn't think was as nice. Crockett looked more of a ponce in this season & also had a hairstyle I didn't think suited him much. Season 3 also started to show some slightly poor episodes, but most were good. Season 4 was different yet again. Crocket's hair was now longer & Tubbs wore an awful beard, making him lose most of his coolness! Even though season 4 had the odd good episode, death & the lady, child's play & blood & roses, most were just absolute nonsense. By the end of season 4 I have to admit I'd gotten rather bored of this show which seemed to have completely lost it's way. However, Miami Vice returned for a 5th, & final, season. Season 5 was different yet again, & I personally think that this season was the best! Crockett was more distant, quiet, & scruffy, which I think suited the character much better. This season had no silly or cheesy stories, it was just great all the way through & seemed to find it's way again. Very different to season 4. I believe if the show had kept that quality it could have ran longer, but sadly it didn't.

Never in my life had I seen such a glamorous and cool series. There were a lot of things that drew me in. The following are a few.Speaking from a technical point of view, Miami Vice was clearly well ahead of its time. Apart from being brilliantly acted, Miami Vice also boasts a lot of action and stylish sequences. However, the element that stands out the most is, without any doubt, the music. In fact, Miami Vice is known to have been the first to make extensive use of popular songs at the time and integrate them into the show. In this respect, one can not but mention the unforgettable "In the Air Tonight" sequence. Also worthy of mention are the clothes used in the show which helped to define 80's fashion. Furthermore, the show also sported a lot of fast cars such as a Ferrari Daytona Spider, a Ferrari Testarossa, Cadillacs and Lamborghinis.By way of conclusion, I believe that everyone should give Miami Vice a shot as I think it is still one of the best TV series ever produced, even when compared with present TV shows, let alone at the time it was created.
