I finally got around to watching Season One of Deadwood, and immediately found the silly, juvenile, and anachronistic overuse of profanity so off-putting that I couldn't watch any further than the first episode. Never mind that some reviewers say it cleans up and improves in later episodes. Why invest any more of my time hoping this happens? The foul language hardly makes the show seem "realistic" and "gritty" any more than using a lot of big words makes someone sound smart.For superb, smart, and realistic dialog in a western-themed show, I would recommend AMC's "Hell On Wheels." You will want to binge- watch all five seasons in one sitting. I came close.

gofastergetrounder Deadwood manages to transcend its medium: It is worthy of being called literature. During the first two episodes, the language almost dissuaded me from watching further. I am very glad I continued to watch. Deadwood ranks at the very top of the Mini-series genre. I'd put a couple up there with it, including The Wire, The Killing, Line of Duty, and the first few seasons of Game of Thrones and the first 3 seasons of Lost, all of which I found massively entertaining. I would not, however, rank anything above it. It is huge. What an unfathomable shame they didn't do more than three seasons.

Tony Montana I decided to start watching this show after seeing the high rating on here. It is definitely well made, the actors are all good, the sets are very realistic seems all authentic. The only problem I have with this show and I'm sure that I'm not the only one yet I wasn't able to find any negative reviews mentioning it is the language they use throughout the show...it is as if I am watching Shakespeare ...I understand about 50 percent of what they are talking about and so it makes it so hard to follow. I rather watch Narcos and read subtitles for 12 hours than continue watching this and be lost as to what is happening. I remember having went to the cinema 30 years ago to see "The General" (a British movie) and been completely clueless as to what they were saying. This show looks good, but the dialog is incomprehensible. Too die plush into their platelet to be able to get the best way for me...kind of incomprehensible... I love HBO, adore The Sopranos, Curb, Sex and The City, etc. But Deadwood? Not for me. And I presume it was not for everyone since they ended it after only 3 seasons. I give it 6 stars after having watched 16 episodes. BTW, why is it so important for people to watch a TV show that is historically accurate in every detail, it's TV not a history book. Like Narcos which is 80% in Spanish at least we have subtitles, but with Deadwood? You are on your own. Is it worth keeping your integrity to the point of alienating half of your viewers? Another example of how lost I was trying to understand Deadwood is Hamlet with Mel Gibson; pretty to look at but to me I need subtitles in modern English please! So many great shows like House of Cards or Bloodline or The Night Of to re-watch instead of going through the torture of Deadwood speak.
