Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Fulke Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
videorama-759-859391 The more and more I watched this show, the more I liked it, and laughed. I just love Ted Danson in this role. He's tailor made for it. It's one of his best performances. Becker is a grouchy doctor, yet I'd rather see him than Doc Martin. Underneath there is a caring and soft self. You know it's there. He just doesn't want to show it. He's a character with a lot of floors. The surrounding characters are wonderfully developed, especially the blind black guy, who frequents the diner, the waitress, a Lara Flynn Boyle looking type, hoping to get noticed by Becker. I too liked the episodes with sexy Nancy Travis as Becker's short lived girlfriend. Shawnee Smith who delivers in any role, is a hoot as sexy young assistant, to the receptionist at Becker's clinic. She in La La land most if the time, but that's what makes her character, invitingly colorful, is a speaking through the nose mode. This was of course before she starred as Jigsaw's victim, turned assistant to the human psychopath, in the Saw films. The dialogue is quick, snappy, and consistently funny, so it's hats off top the writers again. But of course, like I said before, just in another context, top honors go to Danson, where you'll reluctantly fall in love with this character.
studioAT Becker is a consistently funny sitcom that does not rely on big story lines or love triangles in order to keep the audience laughing. Instead it is a character based at times ensemble piece where the laughs come from the characters and their situations which is refreshing.Although it is Ted Dansons show all the other characters have their moments and can be relied upon to have a great deadpan line in every episode. The characters interaction with Becker is also strong and it doesn't always feel like it's all centred around Danson. The great Terry Farrell was the strongest supporting character in the first four seasons but Shawnee Smith and Hattie Winston take up some of the slack after her departure.Overall this is a great, not often recognised comedy gem that sadly never made it's mark on UK audiences.
kclambeth this is a good programme to watch; it's not one of the best but it's definitely above average in sitcomland.John Becker (great Ted Danson) is a surly Doctor who lives in the bronx, thinks he knows everything and hates just about everything about the world, especially the rudeness of everyday people (Amen brother) With John as the central character, the other cast members work well with him. Reggie in the diner was better than Chris, her way of putting herself down for owning a shabby diner and not realizing her life's dreams earlier is very realistic. Linda is great as John's receptionist, not that she does a lot of work! Margaret, John's nurse and receptionist knows just how to handle John even though she has her own problems with her husband, the never seen Lewis. Bob is funny at times, also a little annoying but way better than Hector. Jake is my least favourite, mainly because he never has anything to do except be blind. The story lines are good, i especially like when John has a glimmer of hope about the goodness of people and then by the end of the episode, he is proved right by the decline of civilization.Certain episodes are a bit boring and a bit repetitive but most are worth watching and have quite a few laughs. i'm a big fan of ted danson and think John Becker is a great character. He's a tight fisted old miser but you know he has a heart in there somewhere and that's why he's so easy to watch.
tiger_roar60 A lot of people watch the show Becker. They sometimes see only one episode, get a laugh and that's really about it for them. I watch the show every single day I can. It's that funny. People really say it's just about Dr John Becker, but it isn't really. Its about Becker, Reggie, Jake, Bob, Margaret, and Linda.Chris and Hector showed up the last 2 or 3 seasons, and I have seen mostly the episodes without them. But take a look at the show. It's always about what's happening with Becker, yet the show involves the other characters, what's happening with them as well. My favorite character is Bob, I go crazy with laughter when he shows up. The things he says, the way he talks. Even though Becker is good in his own way Bob was always the best. Jake was pretty funny as well, his little comments and the fact it was pretty easy to make a quick joke about him was too funny. Same kind of thing with Bob, the other characters didn't really like him, except for Linda. He has a quick wit, for example Lindas walking out of the diner, and Bob is walking in. Margaret is right behind Linda. Linda says "Hi Bob." Bob replies quickly. "Salt, Pepper." Bob can make you laugh, the whole show can make you laugh. For anyone who reads this, watch the show a few times and you'll love hat show just as much as I do
