CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
DipitySkillful an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.
coolbeanz9 This is my favorite show ever and the description lets me down on so many levels. ADW is NOT about a struggle through college and in fact that's quite insulting to the show and what it represented. ADW was about black culture, youthful living, and knowledge and ultimately how a person can change through life. So let me reiterate, ADW was not about a struggle through college. I'm a huge fan of Bill Cosby and all of his comedic work, and this was so his best show next to the Cosby show, of course. Some episodes are eye openers, and some are just well put together stories that keep you entertained. I wish all the seasons were out on DVD, but only the first season, which I'd skip over. If you watch one episode, you won't be disappointed and you'll see that this show was much more than a "struggle" through college.
kgriffie When the show first began, it appeared to focus on appealing to a broad audience. However, having attended a Black College, I can attest that there are not that many White students there, which made the initial settings unrealistic. I also felt that the portrayal of Denise Huxtable was inconsistent with her character from The Cosby Show. There she was a good student and was noted as considering multiple colleges including some Ivy Leagues. How do you go from an Ivy League contender to academic probation? Beats me! In spite of that, the show was always very timely and approached many real issues such as racism, AIDS, domestic violence, constitutional rights, war, and Black History. So regardless to what awards the show or its stars may or may not have won, hats off to Debbie Allen and the entire staff for giving America a glimpse into life at a Black College!
harry_crumb This show was nothing but the biggest crock of toilet waste before friends and I hate friends. Oh before I get started I am black. This show did nothing but try to teach lessons and not show us about people people making it, but black people making it. Come on now. I want to watch something that can make me laugh and in the same breath show something. This show got to serious. To serious about Race. Way to serious Oh black people this, and black people that. I thought about this, if white people had the same show talking about white people this, and white people that, it would be considered racist. True or false. I think true. The show was not informative it was irritating. Jasmine Guy's character was at least realistic cause if someone was a snob or hey they would be shunned and made fun of in a heartbeat. In a way I wish Cree Summers character would at least realize that hey I am half white so I can not just stick to being all African American cause no matter what she is half white. The writers worked my nerves with her character. They could have at least done something like how she adjusted in an all black college. Not just jumping in. That would have been something. Kadeem Hardison's character and Jasmin Guys character were the only one that at least developed. Everyone else stuck in the same rut. Oh I forgot Freddie ditched the hair and became serious. She was still a ditz. The show had a chance but no one did not take it to where it could have gone. The writers suck, the plots can go somewhere and if this was not monitored I would have been even meaner. This show gets no love.
lilc_28677 I miss the show so much, i loved to watch it everyday, even though i was born three years before it happened, i grew up to love the crazy Dwayne Wayne and miss beautiful Whitley gilbert, i loved to see those to flirt with each other and act like they did not like each other. i was happy when those to got married, and i loved Ron Johnson, especially when him and Freddie got together in the long run, but at first he fell for Kimberly Reese and was in a love triangle. i wish the show was still on or would have a reunion or do a remake of the show but with different characters on there, having the same personalities as the ones that were on there before. i would love to play Kimberly Reese because she is smart and pretty with a good head on her shoulders, i think i would like to play her because i am going into the medical field, i think they should bring the show back with a reunion. please ms. Allen you have got to make it happen. this show was great and i hate that it ended, but i enjoy watching the show even today, watching all the re-runs of the show it's awesome, especially when Dwayne falls for Whitley and she gets ready to marry Byron and Kim tries to stop her and Dwayne comes to the rescue, that's me favorite show.
