Reviews
Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
coolatheart I really like Diane Kruger, but Monica Bellucci in the original is terrific. It's certainly not a coincidence that the name of the restaurant in Wicker Park where Josh Hartnett overhears Diane Kruger's conversation is named Bellucci's!! That's real respect. The french version is full of comedy, this American remake has next to none. It's worth getting a copy of "Le Apartment" if you enjoy this.
Tori Mero Exceptional movie. Everything ties in together wonderfully and is cleanly conveyed. The camera-work is my favorite thing about this movie. They were able to successfully execute two shots in one to show the emotion and action. Their creative use of mirrors allowed me to see the whole picture. The music was good; it did it's job. The choice to use media res kept me waiting for more and unable to predict the next scene. The flashbacks were marvelous. I continued trying to hypothesize what happened between Lisa and Matthew, but I would never have guessed. The plot was not ordinary. It depicts the two sides of "love at first sight." On one hand, one may think it's completely irrational and that only a delusional person could believe in that. But on the other hand, one may believe it's just fate. Alex and Matthew demonstrate the former point. Alex was not mentally sound. She had no remorse for her actions until she realized she was going to be found out. Lisa and Matthew demonstrate the latter point. They truly loved each other and met purely by chance. The ending of the movie may be regarded as cliché, which I would agree with. The typical running through the airport, looking for the love of my life. But, it was necessary. When Lisa, who was heading to Paris, and Matthew, who was heading to New York, first parted ways there was miscommunication, or even a lack of communication. What Lisa and Matthew both believed to be the end of their relationship, was actually foreshadowing the beginning of their life together. The end of the movie shows Lisa heading to London and Matthew heading to China. But the situation that seemed to end their relationship in the first place is where they find each other.
gridoon2018 I haven't seen the (highly regarded) original French film "L'Appartement" of which "Wicker Park" is a remake, but there is one specific plot point - the non-use of cell-phones - that seems to be carried over from the 1996 film and is much harder to swallow in 2004. Also, the ending is a tad conventional. Other than that, however, "Wicker Park" is a very good movie: visually hypnotic, emotionally compelling, and intellectually challenging. It is put together like a puzzle, jumping back and forth in time, with a remarkable attention to detail; midway through it even shifts perspectives and makes you re-consider who is actually the main character in the story! Josh Hartnett is fine, but Rose Byrne steals the show with her affecting performance. An underrated film. *** out of 4.
robertestx I saw this movie in a hotels HBO - more out of bore dome than anything else. But boy was this a fantastic surprise. I enjoyed this movie so much that I rated it 10/10 because it has such a captivating story. I don't think Matthew Lilliard or Josh Hartnett are such amazing actors, but in the roles they played, they did quite well. Diane Kruger did a very good job, but Rose stole the show. She really made me want her to get hit by a bus being such a conniving and treacherous feline. I won't give any spoilers away other than the one I just did, I will say that I will definitely watch this movie with my wife and I'm sure she will love it. I certainly hope you enjoy it as I did.
