SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Pike The tower sounds can release human's desire, free your soul and mind, then you just can do anything what you wanna to do in here. But I think the Baal idol can explain everything, but have the question. Why still have people worship an evil god? for what? have any purpose? or just start some new slaughter for worship him? I can't find the answer then I try to think deeper dig more, It's possible have a psychological element inside in this movie, maybe all thing in the island was never be happen, what they see, they think all was some weird illusion. This movie's theme was brand new in 70's, but the script just unsightly... If this movie have sequel or reboot with a new things, It can be a new upsurge. But this movie still work to collect, if you are horror film's big fan.IN LAST, JUST NEVER GET IN TO THE EVIL ISLAND!!! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!(but for Halloween, it's excited experience!)
Rainey Dawn The original title of the British film is "Tower of Evil". It is known in the U.S. as "Beyond the Fog" and in Canada as "Horror on Snape Island" or "Horror of Snape Island".Not a film for me.... I kept fast forwarding and all I saw was naked young people wanting to have sex - minus one female. Why all the pointless sex scenes and nudity? To fill out the film because there isn't enough of a story to make a movie out of I'm afraid.Yes this is one of the prelude films to the stereo-typical slasher films of the 80's. We all know what happens already: A group of over-sex young people find a way to isolate themselves and then get picked off one by one by a slasher. *Yawn!* The monster at the end of this film is quite a laugh... stupid looking really. Not at all scary. Some people may really enjoy this film - but I for one did not like what little of it I watched. I'm just glad we have a fast forward button.I will give this movie a 2 just for the attempt of a Gothic atmosphere.2/10
JoeB131 This movie is somewhere between a slasher flick and a Hammer Horror movie. The plot is that some dead teens are found on an Island, and are followed up by some museum people looking for a lost treasure of an ancient idol of Baal. The whole Baal subplot is silly and doesn't really belong there, other than a device to get people on the island to be picked off by a rather pathetic killer. There is copious amounts of nudity and sex scenes you'd never see today because we are all too stuffy about that sort of thing. The makeup is cheap, and when you get to the money shot at the end where the monster is revealed, he looks just kind of silly.
acidburn-10 The plot = Two teenage couples arrive on Snape Island, to party and have sex, but not for long as they start to get victimized by an unseen killer who disposes the victims with an axe. One of the girls survives the massacre but is driven mad with fear and actually kills one of the sailors who tries to rescue her. As she's in a traumatised state, the police decides she's the killer, so the girls parents hires a private detective to travel to the island of doom to prove her innocence. He teams up a group of museum types, who believe that a temple for the Phoenician god called Baal resides in the caverns underneath the rocky island.I can across this little gem late one night on BBC 2, and not expecting much to come from this, well I was actually pleasantly surprised. This movie came out in 1972, and definitely sets the tone for what's to come later with the slasher craze that was to follow within' the next couple of years. The setting of the island is very dark and Gothic and sets the perfect tone and atmoshere. The effects are also surprisingly realistic for a movie this old particularly the headless body and the severed hand - are very realistic.Tower of Evil is fast-paced and entertaining, full of solid performances and shocks. But is also has many cheesy moments that undermine the atmosphere. And there are one or two cheesy moments like when the girl is the hospital in a special machine with disco lights, I mean thought that scene was hilarious. There are also red herrings, blood-lettings, occasional bouts of madness, explicit sex scenes, and the extended use of fast-cutting, with subliminal shocks. All in all a solid British slasher that has aged reasonably well, definitely worth checking out.
