Reviews
CheerupSilver Very Cool!!!
Laikals The greatest movie ever made..!
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
John Brooks Not much should be said or time spent on reviewing such a thing. The Onion News is a thing online, and they made a film about it. The plot is basically that 'Norm' plays the traditional old school news broadcaster and is unhappy what his network is turning into, and then there's this whole development at the end and stuff, but none of that is actually important. What's actually significant, if at all ! - is the silly, even stupid but funny humor on display. They'll make fun of all sorts of clichés from today's world, from your Britney Spears type pop singer to those cheesy kungfu films, to ads or news stories, society... it's all there as you'd imagine it, and it's fun. For a first viewing at least, it makes for an unpredictable, dynamic and diverse experience in random and completely unadulterated humor. You should find at least some of it funny, if not, as most people I'd imagine, all of it fairly entertaining. I wouldn't call it 'bad' by any stretch, but it's no comedy gold either. Humor is one of these very subjective things: give it a try, watch the first few sketches.
merklekranz Think "Kentucky Fried Movie", or "Amazon Women on the Moon", only without many laughs. Twenty five years ago, "The Onion Movie" might have been considered outrageous, unfortunately today it must be considered for the most part, dated and decidedly not funny. Stereotyping the handicapped, homosexuals, and minorities, may have worked way back when, but now seems quite old and tired. The news anchor's battle with an annoying penguin, neck belts, and cooking with kitty's are the few brief bright spots, but sitting through the remaining eighty minute running time is not worth it........ Not recommended. - MERK
hippielike_dude Although I get the point and nature of the comedy and the satire this movie uses, it seemed such a hopeless attempt. I barely laughed, the jokes are unfinished, unstudied and not ironic enough. This movie expects too much from itself, and there are far too many examples of how this type of humor should be used and understood, that "onion movie" just seems to have a lot of growing up to do. It's just some "scary movie" kind of jokes placed in some sort of smart comedy release wannabe. Some friends of mine praised it so much that I probably expected too much also; I'll just have to talk some sense into them and tell them that profound and kind-of-painful humor and irony go much higher than saying that music videos these days are almost porn. The acting was bad too; probably they believed it would add to the satire...
Trevor This is the first time I was really let down by the reviews I read on IMDb. I usually enjoy all types of humour, even slapstick but this movie did not really do anything to me. I don't understand why so many people thought this was funny. The humour behind this movie is un inspired and extremely childish ... I cannot understand why people suggested that this is one of the funniest movies they've ever seen. What exactly did make you laugh ? Is this really what American humour has to offer ?? Surely not, because I've seen much better (american) work than this.I admit there were a few sketches I found funny. However I soon found myself getting bored again because the story behind the sketch was too long. A movie is only funny if it hits you with a joke and then moves on the next one and not by having to explain to you why you should have laughed at it in the first place. The movie is at best watchable and hence my 4.
