Reviews
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Sanjeev Waters A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Kinley This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
robgiblin I almost did not watch this as IMDb is fairly reliable for me with ratings over/under 6. Not sure why this was a 5.7 however I am a fan of Forrest and Eric. They are equally great in their performance here. Subject matter is hard. This movie had me from start to finish and did not disappoint. The lead characters and supporting leads pull their weight in conveying perspectives from both sides of one of history's darker (and still ongoing) sagas.
cwhite_realtor The movie in itself was very good The performances were not so bad But there is NO WAY I would have the same reaction as that mother did in the end.
jbigs-55038 Very intense movie. The intense confrontation between Whitaker's Tutu and Bana's imprisoned death squad policeman is very unsettling at first but progresses to the point where you feel their internal struggles. The acting by the South Africans playing a mother whose daughter disappeared and a teen prisoner was superb.
Larry Silverstein As other reviewers have noted, this film depicting the attempts of the nation of South Africa to heal itself after its brutal apartheid policies had ended, is very deliberately paced, disjointed at times, and can be a most difficult watch.Yet, in my opinion, it's an important movie that illustrates the very best and worst qualities of us humans. It also contains superb performances from its 2 leads, Forest Whitaker as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Eric Bana as the vicious inmate and former death squad leader Piet Blomfeld. There are also many fine performances, too numerous to mention,, in the supporting cast.Overall, this film is defiinitely not for everyone with its slow pacing and extremely graphic depictions, but if the viewer can stay with it, it has a most powerful ending and does offer some rewards.
