Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces firsthand.

Patience Watson One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.
wendymareadawson Why didn't someone tell Hugh Jackman - who should have known anyway - that Australian stockmen don't crouch over their horse's necks when they ride, or gallop horses past the homestead ad nauseam. And the pigeon english as spoken by the indigenous Australians in this movie is cringe inducing. And how did Jackman make it to Darwin when it was still burning, presumably from near Faraway Downs? Terrible movie, saved only by the beautiful landscape.
Kimbie84 Okay, so I can't understand why there are so many bad reviews. So I had just gotten Fios, after Charter crapped the bed, and this movie was on. I didn't think I'd like it, but Hugh Jackman is in it, need I say more? Well, when I first watched it, I thought it was going to be a silly comedy; from the cover it was a romance so I'm like ooh, okay a romantic comedy. It turned to be something so much more. I loved how Nicole aka Sarah turned from a rich woman with her nose up in the air to more humble. And the spark between Nicole and Hugh...oh my....okay, so I'm a hopeless romantic and the war, my heart strings. When he thought she was dead and how devastated he was....I was just....my heart imploded. Clearly, this movie isn't for everyone, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. It didn't hurt that Hugh went back to his natural roots and the Australian accent....my ovaries exploded hahah it certainly seems this movie may have a larger female audience. But in all seriousness, I loved it.
Johan Rasmussen I'll make a list of things, that I think was making this film unwatchableTerrible acting from terrible actors. I don't know who was in charge of the casting for this film, but who ever it was needs to be firedThe movie is at times very hard to understand, and the plot is pretty stupid and obviousThe little half aboriginal kid, is the most cringe worthy little kid i have ever seen in any movie. His accent is terrible, and his English is even worse. His vocabulary is just about big enough, for small children to like him. Making him " a magic man" by giving him "speciel abilities" was over the top for me. This film could have been a realistic, funny and probably also good movie, if this kid wasn't in it.There were so many brain dead unnecessary dialouges that could easily been removed. The movie turned from a "action film?" to a romantic movie to the end, a war movie of some sort i believe. 1/100 stars from me. Don't bother buying this stupid piece of crap movie. Save your money, and buy yourself a rope and hang yourself with it, because you probably get more enjoyment from hanging yourself, than watching a mere minute of this garbage excuse for a movie.
tibisko I personally enjoyed the movie very much. I find it very deep and emotional. It certainly made me weep several time. Excellent actors, fantastic music, the story is very profound and it certainly delivers a very moving message about love, honor and the spirituality of the locals. Beautiful and emotional, i don't really think that it could have been better. This movie is simply brilliant. As far as i am concerned, the critics are the viewers and we all might enjoy it differently. If the viewer enjoys the movie, than it's a good movie. Simple as that.A true masterpiece! It certainly worth the time watching it.
